XP: What is after a regular carseat?

-->
My DD is 16 months I am pregnant with twins that are due in Oct. I am trying to figure out how long my DD will be in here britax roundabout carseat.  It says 40 inches and 40 lbs is the max.  Around what age/weight do they move up to a booster type seat?  Sorry if this is dumb question I am just not sure!  Just trying to decide what we need to buy.  Thanks!

Re: XP: What is after a regular carseat?

  • She will need to be harnessed for at least 2.5 more years. The absolute minimum is 4 years and 40 lbs, but most kids need to be harnessed longer than that. Is she FF already? If so, you might look into the graco nautilus which harnesses to 65 lbs and then converts into a booster. If she's still RF (recommended until the upper weight limit of the seat, which is either 33 or 35 lbs on a britax, depending on when it was made), look into the true fit, britax marathon or boulevard, sunshine kids radian 65 or XT, or evenflo triumph advance.
  • You can move them to most boosters after they outgrow the roundabout, especially the 5 point type.  They will mostly hit the 40 inches around 3 to 4, unless you have one on the ends of the spectrum.

  • A lot of kids fit in the regular convertible carseat like you have until 4 - my friend's DS is on the small side and still in his and he just turned 5 (but he's like 20%tile for height and weight).

    After that there is a high-back booster, then later a belt-positioning booster. The longer you can keep her in a 5pt harness rather than just the car's seatbelt, the safer she will be.
