2nd Trimester

Jr. vs. same first name/different middle name

i am currently having this dicussion with my H right now. he says that if we have a boy he MAY want to name it after him (he is actually a III and has always said he doesn't want a IV), but doesn't want the same middle name.

to me, that doesn't make sense...if you are going to be all confused with having the same first name i say go all the way with the middle name and make him a jr/IV/whatever.

he says it's easier for credit cards and stuff from his personal experience.

thoughts?

Re: Jr. vs. same first name/different middle name

  • I always thought the middle name would be different but the first name the same for a Jr. Same first and middle just seems like too much to me and would probably be a mess w/ credit cards and stuff.. My brother was named after my dad (he's the 6th actually) and they have different middle names, yet stuff still gets mixed up! You'd think w/ a different SS# that wouldn't be an issue, and yet it still is. My dad has gotten my brother's CC issued to him on accident, my brother has one of my dad's speeding tix on his record.. it's just a pain.

  • If we have a boy he will be a Junior but I think we will give him a different mid name for the reasons stated above.

hmm, i always thought you needed the same first and middle name to be a true junior.

i am against the whole concept in general - lol - i don't understand whey you just can't give the kid their own name, but now i think my H is starting to thing about it more...ugh.

  • I definitely recommend using a different middle name than the first to make things easier and forego the Jr.  My DH is a JR and it has been nothing but problems for us.  He HATES that they have the same name and even has issues with his credit report because of the confusion of names.

  • DH and I went through this with our first son.  To be a jr they have to have the same first and middle name.  to be II, III, IV, V the same firs tbut differnt middle.  My DH wanted his first son to be but his ex refused.  He wanted DS to be but my dad had just passed away and i wanted his middle name to be james after my dad.  he kept saying all along if we have another then this one will be the jr, he has mentioned anything yet and has thought of other names.  I think everyone telling him that it is supposed to be the first one not the second or third finally sunck in.
  • My dad and brother have the same first name, different middle name. My berother went by his middle name all of his life.
  • DH has the same first name as FIL but different middle names.  We are always getting his dad's mail and vise versa.  DH has said a couple of times he wishes his dad would have just made him a JR because it would be so much easier.  DH has to use his middle name on EVERYTHING or else he could get confused to be his father.  Not that it's just a bad thing, but it does annoy him a bit.
