If my kid wears a 3T would that be pretty close to a 3/4 in the big kid section?

depends!

In "rise" is usually shorter in the big kid section in the 3/4 + size.

The rise is the length from waist to crotch and if the kids is still in diapers it would fit different.

In my experience 3T and 3 are close to the same size as well as 4T and 4.  With some brands they are identical (in weight/height measurements anyway), and some like Carters are slightly bigger without the T.

ohhh, I see. so in pants it'd be different, but the shirts would be fine. Same for dresses, right?
