Would you live away from DH part time?

There is a potential job for my DH that would require us to live about 400 miles apart for 4-5 days a week. Then if things worked out with the job the kids and I would relocate with him in 6-9mths time or there is also the possibility that he would be able to telecommute 3 weeks a month after the first 6 mths.

**DH is currently unemployed and I'm a SAHM. This job would be a 27% increase of him former salary.?

Re: Would you live away from DH part time?

  • Yes, esp if neither of us were currently working.  I know it's hard to be away but you do what you need to do......
  • I'd do it.

  • I'd do it. It will be tough, but I think you can handle it. Do you think you guys would be happy in this new town?
  • My ILs have done this many times.  FIL would get a transfer in another state, she would not want to uproot the kids more often than she had to.  They made it work.

If I had to, I would do it.

  • Given your current situation, yes I would do it.  At times like this, you need to go where the work takes you.

  • People do it all the time.

Military families live apart for a year or more. You do what you have to.

  • yes...  We did it for almost a year.  It wasn't easy...but we dealt with it.  I would do it again if it meant a better opportunity.

I don't really know much about it yet. I do know that the COL is significantly lower there than it is here. I would have to research it more once we decide if this is even something we would consider.?

  • If he had a good job already no, if he was unemployed, yes.  My DH travels about 3 weeks a month for 2 or 3 days (1 or 2 nights) and I don't like it but you get used to it.

  • I would. ?I actually thought wed have to do this when I thought I was pg last week. ?I think it could work out fine.
  • MH travels every week from Tues-Friday and comes home on the weekends.  IT IS HARD!  I work full-time out of the home so that may be why I think it is extra difficult. I'm exhausted all.the.time.  That said, if I were in your shoes, and we needed one of us to work, I would definitely do it.

  • In your situation I would absolutely do it.  If DH already had a job and then got this offer?  It depends on where we'd be moving to.
