Middle name for Owen

Hi ladies,

So I'm thinking Owen is it for our little man! Glad to have that worked out. But I'd love some help with middle names. I can't decide, for one, whether I'd rather use a family surname (possibly even mine) or a "given name." DH doesn't have a preference. And whichever I go with, there are still many options to choose from.

Here's what I've got so far (Trafford is DH's name, not mine, FWIW)

- Surname as MN
Owen Carlisle Trafford
Owen Reilly Trafford

- Given name as MN
Owen William Trafford (William is my bro's name)
Owen Elliott Trafford
Owen Walter Trafford

What do you think? I'd love some input on this one! Also any other middle name suggestions would be great -- anything that you think sounds good.

Thanks!

Re: Middle name for Owen

  • Wow, you picked really great strong names. My favorite out of that bunch is Owen Carlisle.

    I also Like Owen James.

  • Those are some great names you picked out. You can't go wrong with any of them really.

Owen Walter however is just a little old man for me. Cute names on their own but not together.

Owen Carlisle is the one that first stuck out at me as a great pick!

  • I love Owen Henry, which isn't on your list, but also like those on your list very much - agree with pp that you can't really go wrong.  William and Carlisle are my favorites.  I lean towards William only because Carlisle is a little feminine to me, not sure why.
  • my nephew is owen michael.
  • I love Owen William! If DD had been a boy, that was going to be her name. :)

Owen Henry is great! Yeah, William and Carlisle are also my top picks of the ones I listed -- and I like that they're both names from my side of the family, since he'll take DH's last name.

I was also going to suggest Owen James (although my friend's son has picked up the NN O.J.)

Out of your list my fav is Owen Reilly.

  • I love the name Owen, it was one of my top 3.  Owen William is my favorite of your choices, but before I read the whole post, Owen James came to mind.

  • I like the surname idea, but prefer Reilly to Carlisle, since it sounds less surnamey to me.

I really like Owen William and Owen Walter as well. William more so than Walter.

  • I really like Owen William and Owen Walter, Owen Reilly is also good.

I was going to suggest Owen Thomas before I saw your suggestions and that's yout last name starts with a T. Maybe too many T's? Anyway, I love the name Owen Thomas and it also happens to be the name of my best friend when I was in university - he is the best guy ever so have nothing but positive associations to that name.

ETA: Thomas was his last name, not middle name but would obviously work as a mn too.

  • I love the surname as the mn: Owen Carlisle & Owen Reilly (both are very strong names and they have meaning behind them)...

  • I have a son and his name is Owen Benjamin.....I know it wasn't an option but it is just an idea.  We were considering Owen Jackson until we look at the initial O.J. and then we both vetoed that an any other "J" name!  HTH!
