? about BFing and pumping

My DD only ever eats from one breast during a feeding.  I offer the other but she's never interested.  Would it be a bad idea to pump the other side to build up a stash?  I'm not talking for every feeding but maybe for just the first morning one or the last one at night (well the last one before her long stretch of sleep which is usually 5-6 hours).  I don't need a lot in the freezer as I SAH but I will need to be away from her for a few 6-8 hour blocks in the next month or so and will need her to take BM from a bottle.

What do you suggest?

Re: ? about BFing and pumping

  • I've been doing this with the morning feeding (she only ever takes one side at a time, too)  The other boob is usually pretty full then and I can get a good 4-5 oz. from it!   I could probably do it throughout the day...but I'm too lazy. =p

  • DD preferred one side over the other, although I encouraged both, and became a bit lopsided.  So I think it is a good idea just to balance things out :)

  • This is what I'm doing right now. ?I can never get him to latch on to the right side, so I just pump it 2-3 times a day. ? All of my kids have preferred the left side, and the right side has dried up way before I was done breastfeeding them. ?I figure I may as well build up a freezer stash while it lasts.
