Poll: When timing TTC what is more important?

I know you can't always plan these things, but just humor me.

DH and I are talking about making a plan (for a year or so) for DC#3. The best timing for me as a teacher is to give birth in the fall/winter so I can have a longer leave. However, both DDs, DH and I all have birthdays in the fall/winter.

Which do you think is more important? The timing of that first year, or subsequent birthdays?

Yes, I realize this is kindof a silly thing to make a poll about, but having all our birthdays within a few months could be rough too.

  • WOuldn't the best time to have a baby being a teacher be in the springtime.  That way you'd have leave and summer vacation back to back?  At least that's what my BFF who is a teacher is planning on doing.

  • I thought if you were a teacher, you wanted to give birth April-June, for the longer leave, so you were right getting pg in the fall.

Why would want all fall birthdays though?  I have August and September and the back to back parties was rough.  I think in your case, I would want another time of year.

With my DDs, I had them in the fall/winter and just took the rest of the year off. Spoiled, I know.

  • Well, considering the fact that I am in September, DH is November, and we have 2 December babies, I vote for whenever you want to. LOL

  • I always look at it from a "first year" perspective. IMO, thats when it is the toughest and I'd want it to be most optimal for help; our schedules etc.  Down the road it might be tough to do all the bdays together, but really after those really early years where we tend to get nutty w/ parties it probably won't be as big of a deal and way down the road you can all celebrate together with vacays or spa weekends etc :)
  • Originally, I really wanted to have another October baby.  (DH, DD, and I are all October).  Then, we decided to TTC in December.  Since I'm now on fertility meds, I *hope* to become pregnant soon to coincide with the school schedule.  (Get April and May off in addition to the summer months).  I don't want to have a baby in the middle of the school year, now.
  • look at me - "spa weekends"... already assuming your not-yet-conceived #3 is a girl! :)
  • Well, four of you already have fall birthdays, so I would be inclined to say that at this point, probably doesn't matter.  I don't know...

  • DH, DD & I have our bdays all within 3wks! DH always says he'll feel bad if the next one has a different bday b/c they'll wonder 'where the heck is my turn?"! I kind of want my future kids to have bdays close(ish) to us 3.
  • We are aiming for another spring/summer baby.  I like having a spring bday and I like dd having a summer bday.  You can do so many more different things when the weather is nice.  I also like the idea of having a newborn when the weather is nice to avoid RSV season until they are a little older and hardier.
