Babies: 9 - 12 Months

LO has a fever

She had vax on Monday, and had had a cough and sniffles for about a week prior that were def getting better, and I mentioned it to the dr and the nurse before she got the vax (dtap and rhota)...but I am wondering if that contributed since she has never had a reaction before.  Anyway, it was 100.9 at 6pm last night and the pedi said to give her tylenol every 4 hours and try to get her to drink 24 oz of pedialite over the next 24 hours (she had some diarrhea yesterday afternoon).  At 10pm her fever was 102.3, we gave her the tylenol and she wouldn't take any pedialite.  She slept from 11pm - 5:30am.  Her temp was 102.4.  Gave her some tylenol, but she still wouldn't take pedialite - or formula.  She is back asleep and I plan to call the pedi when they open at 8:30am since she hasn't eaten since last night/evening.

This is our first experience with it and it sucks.  I hate seeing her like this.  Just venting more than anything else, unless someone has some ideas. (we've been putting wet wash cloths on her neck when she is awake)

Re: LO has a fever

  • Switch over to infants motrin it works much better for fevers.

DS has been sick with Pneumonia the past 4 days with 104.5 degree fevers, mortrin is the only thing that controlled the fever and allowed DS to take in pedialyte.

Also put her in a tepid bath, she's gonna cry but it will help to cool her down.  Keep her dressed in nothing but a diaper and a onesie which will also help to keep her cool.

  • The lack of appetite is normal as long as she is taking pedialyte and is not dehydrated she will be fine.  Definately get her in to the pediatrician.  They may do a throat swab and check her for a UTI since strep and UTI's can cause fevers.

Also since she has been congested they may give her a nebulizer treatment to help clear her congestion and make a her a little more comfortable.
