I don't know what causes it, but she's had it since she was a few weeks old. She has a couple of patches on her arms, and one by her chin and cheek. The ones on her face are due to the fact that she drools a lot. And now, she knows how to itch it. Before, she would rub it with her fist, now she scratches with her fingers. I had to get a steroid cream for her, but we haven't had to use it recently. The thing I love is Cerave. They sell it at CVS. Its a big white pump with a blue label. Just moisturize, and it should help get rid of it.
He had it this winter, from the dry air. Aquafor worked like a charm. I get it too in the winter. Pedi said lotions in the summer, more ointment-type stuff for the winter. I see your in CT too, it gets so dry here.

Yes! The pedi called it moderate. His cheek, elbows, shins, and back all have red (not crusty anymore) patches. His head is a whole other story. It is VERY crusty and itchy. We used a stage 1 steroid, but that didn't help any. About a month ago, we got a stage 2 for everywhere but his face. It did wonders. He has lots of hair, so it is difficult to get enough medicine into his scalp without using the entire container.
Try these...
Lukewarm baths (only once or twice a week)
No soap on body
Fragrance/Dye free shampoo in hair only
Medicine/cream/aquaphor with 3 three minutes of getting out of the tub
Pat dry...don't rub
Dress lightly...DS's flairs up bad when he gets overheated
We use Aquaphor, and I've also started running the humidifier at night. I ran it when she was congested from a cold and noticed that it seemed to help clear up her skin too. Makes sense I guess but it had never occurred to me before. Now I turn it on every night.
DD has it. Doc said she'll be more prone to it since I have it and DH has extremely insanely sensitive skin.
I get it mostly in the cold weather months though, and that's when DD had it. Doc said she only likes to prescribe creams as a last resort so I tried the Aveeno Baby lotion w/the blue cap (it says eczema right on the front). I slathered it on her after every bath and it was cleared up within a week or so. Her skin was soft as a baby's bottom (lol), no red rough scaly patches.
I used the lotion w/the Aveeno calming bath soak as well.
These are all good suggestions. About the eczema on the scalp, i actually had to cut my DS's hair pretty short at about 9 months because i couldn't get the medicine (hydrocortizone) on his scalp because of his hair. I was incredibly sad but after seeing how much better his scalp was in a week or so, I'm over it. We'll keep it short now so i can keep an eye on it more easily.
I would also echo the vaporizer. I didn't think we needed one but it has seriously helped.
Re: Does anyone's LO have eczema?
ds does. I don;t think anything causes it per say. Maybe hereditary, though neither dh or I have it.
It was worse in the middle of winter, really crusty patches.
I just put a good CREAM on him, not lotion, as lotion dries out. You want a cream for him.

Good Luck. I know how frustrating it can be.
