Speaking of plates... I need new ones recs pls

Our Pier One plate have fought the good fight and 8 years later look like chipped crap.  So, where did you get your plates that are microwave/dishwasher safe?  I'd prefer that they were chip resistant if that's possible because the ones from Pier One chip BAD.

  • My Crate and Barrell dishes are awful in the microwave (even though they say they are microwave safe) and they chip too.  I am seriously thinking about getting plain white dishes from Target next!
  • These are our every day plates - they have worked very well for us the past 3 years:

  • I've been thinking about this lately.  I have Fiestaware that I've had for over 10 years and there isn't a single chip on it.  I had no idea that tableware wasn't always so durable because my Fiestaware is so great.

I don't like the color of it anymore.  What I have is Persimmon (orange) and I've been wanting white for a while so I decided to just buy a whole new set in white a little at a time.  They're expensive but totally worth it.

I don't really have any recs except to look for ones that are sealed on the bottom well.  I ended up throwing some plates out because the ring on the bottom wasn't sealed, and the moisture from the dishwasher when they were stacked in the cabinet made them moldy even if we dried them.

  • I got some plain white ones from Crate and Barrel several years ago, and love them!  They do get a little warm in the microwave if they're in there for a long time, but we don't hardly ever microwave stuff on them.

Anyway, the key is to buy porcelain.  It is very durable.  Rory is constantly throwing our bowls into the kitchen sink, and we have not had any problems.

  • We have pfaltzgraff and love them. We've had them for 5 years and have not broken anything but 1 coffee mug, that we dropped. We've dropped the plates a million times and have never broken one (probably will tonight now!). Plus, they carry the replacement ones forever, so if you break one, you can always buy one to match.
  • I have Dansk Bistro dinnerware and love it.

  • We've had the PB White dishes as well as some Great White pieces for four years and they have held up very well. I LOVE my white dishes!
