Gross! Need your help...

hmdhmd member

I found a huge bug on one of DH's shirts that was hanging downstairs today at lunch.  When I am doing laundry, I will fold it and put it on our kitchen table for him to take upstairs.  I did kill it, but now I am scared to death that it was a roach or something.

I looked online to see some pictures, but I don't remember it looking like any of those.  It was huge, like 2", with big long tenacles, brown or brownish red.  I hit it with my shoe, and it fell to the floor where I squished it.

I suppose DH can dig it out of the trash to see what it was when he gets home, but it seriously has freaked me out.  Our neighbors two doors recently moved/got rid of a huge pile of crap/trash/wood in the back by the alley, and I am wondering if it could have come from there?

  • Why does it matter what kind of bug it was? It is dead an in the trash. I don't get the issue here.

Sorry.  If it is a roach, I would like to take some measures so we don't get more.

  • Oh, honestly just do the normal and you will be fine. Keep food off the floor and out of reach.

Off the floor and out of reach? Out of reach from what? If it's a roach, they crawl everywhere!

It could have been a palmetto bug. And, I just googled it. My skin is crawling now. If it was a palmetto bug, they hang out in damp wood.

Um... google it and tell me if that's what it was.

  • The big brown roaches are tree roaches and come inside looking for water. They aren't the ones you get from having a dirty house. Not much you can do other than spray around outside doors with bengal spray to poison them as they come in.
  • Do you have pine trees near you? I'm in Western PA and we get Western Conifer Seed Bugs in our house sometimes. They can get pretty big and are brownish-red...
