Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Off the subject, but I need some advice please

Hi I am posting this so maybe one of you have experiecd this or has it and is embrassed to ask or discuss it. So here it goes.... When I was 37 weeks pregnant I got my first hemmorid (and boy I had no clue what it was, and I called the doctor freaking out, saying the baby was coming out the wrong end !!!!!) Well she kept telling me that it would go away on its own and to not be worried about it.  I was so freaked out and I just kept praying it would go away. After months and months it hadn't and I finally got her to refered me to a colon/rectal surgery who is "the best in the city" and made an important to see him. I was more embrassed with that exam then giving birth to my son with like 20 doctors/med students and nurses in the room. He told me that I have an internal hemroid with a large skin tag and thats what cauing me such discomfort. I'm in NO pain, but it annoys me when I go to the bathroom after a BM or when I wear thong underwear I feel it rub sometimes. I have surgery sent up next week and he already warned me that I will have a HARD and PAINFUL recovery and I wont be able to pick my son who is now 18 months old for 10 days. I have my mom coming here to help me so I can rest and sleep with the help of pain meds of course. My question to you all is........ Have any of you had this done or have it now (the skin tag) and just deal with it ? I'm thinking about cancelling my surgery because I am so scared of the pain from the surgery !!! I figure it's NOT 100% that he could get all of the skin tag and hemroid. My husband thinks I shoudl wait until we are done having kids and if it bothers me then or I want to get it remove then I will have the sugery then all at once (meaning if I get new ones with a new pregancy) Any advice would be GREAT

  • Never had anything like that at all. I'm sorry that doesn't sound pleasant at all. Really it's up to you. Are you willing to have that kind of discomfort for that long, until you are done having kids? And who's to say it wouldn't grow while you are pregnant and be that much more painful. Just a thought, GL!

  • Have one!  Aren't the lovely?  :)

Seriously, hugs to you.  For me, it only gets really bad certain times of the month so I'm ok with it, but when it's bad, it's awful!

Have you tried some less invasive methods besides Tucks?  There's this stuff called "Rhoid Balm" and it really helps!  Also, sometimes just plain old Witch Hazel on my bum works.

I would be scared of surgery with one as young as yours, but also just scared in general.  I had a C/S and recovery was awful.

Maybe look up some other methods or diets to try to help with it?

  • I got one during delivery, but it went away.  Have you tried high fiber diet, regular exercise, and some of the topical treatments the pp's mentioned?  That might help after a few months.  If it doesn't bother you most of the time, I think I'd hold off and see if it gets better on its own.  Good luck with your decision!

I'm with Pax - mine comes and goes.  However, mine is a little different in that I've been previously diagnosed with an anal fissure (not fun!).  It took me a while to determine that it was, in fact, a hemi.  My OB confirmed that at my annual this year.

My OB said that I could get it fixed, but it would be in my best interest to deal with it until we're done having kids.  He said (and I believe) that it's just going to come back or get worse upon delivering additional kids.

Bottom line: I agree with your H - I'd wait til you're done having babies.  Especially since it's just irritation and not pain at this poitn.

  • My brother has had two removed.  Now I have not clue if one for a guy is different than one for a girl (I know he wasn't pregnant either time:P) but he had them removed and honestly one time I didn't even know he had had surgery.

My thought is if its brothering you enough get it removed becuase what's to say the next pregnancy wont make it worse.  If it doesn't but more of an annoyance then I wouldn't do it.
