A friend of mine is newly pregnant and has had several miscarriage. Her RE told her to take heparin and she is nervous....but then again, who isn't nervous when you get the BFP after a couple of pregnancy losses. Any insight, good websites or info is appreciated, just trying to help her out in the stress level. Of course I told her to talk to her doctor with any concerns and find out specifically why he is rec the heparin.

I did! Actually, I took lovenox (another blood thinner) for the first eight months, then switched over to heparin for the last four weeks. I ended up stopping the heparin because I had a bad reaction. I was on the blood thinners (in addition to baby aspirin) because of three pregnancy losses and a mutation of a blood clotting disorder. Has she had any repeat pregnancy loss testing?
Some doctors will just prescribe heparin/lovenox as empirical therapy - I think it's a fairly new thing though. I saw a hematologist who specializes in blood clotting disorders and pregnancy loss, and he was the one who monitored my blood levels during my pregnancy to determine how I was doing on the lovenox, whether the dosage needed to be changed, etc.
