need some cooking help I dont have any oil what can I used instead???

Ok So I get some help to go to the store and back and everything. I was gonna make a cake but guess what No oil. I do not have the strength to go to the store again! What else can I use instead of oil that I might have here at the house?

It calls for 1/3 cup oil.

  • yep--apple sauce is the trick I know for baked goods.  What are you making?  Along with the apple sauce, maybe a tiny bit of butter for flavor enhancement, if it makes sense for whatever you are making.  (Meaning if your baking a chocolate cake, I wouldn't bother, but if you are making pastry dough, I would probably add a little butter)
  • Nope no applesauce for once in this house!

  • I've used fruit baby food before. Works like applesauce. I think it was some banana-strawberry babyfood, but I'm sure anything would work.

  • I just googled, and many people said you could use melted butter or margarine to replace it.  Just make sure it is cooled before adding.

You could always use olive oil instead of vegatable oil, but I think it would have a bit different of a flavor.

  • Do you have shortening or butter?  It's not an exact conversion, 1/3 cup oil would be somewhat less shortening. My mom's old Betty Crocker cookbook had the conversion in the appendix--maybe you could check one of your cookbooks or google it?
