Anyone have a placental tear?

I have a friend who is 16 weeks pregnant. She started bleeding and was diagnosed with a placental tear. It's been quite a bit of time (almost 2 weeks) and she is still bleeding -- red blood and clots. The doctor told her she would have brown discharge from the old blood, but it's continued to be red. Her doctor is telling her there is nothing that can be done - her placenta is still bleeding or its a miscarriage. Has this happened to any of you? I'm concerned about her and I wanted to get an idea whether this is fairly common.

It might be important to add that she got pregnant unexpectedly after a c-section and the time between delivering her first and conceiving this baby is only 4 months. I've read that could create complications, so thought it was relevant. Thanks for any insight you can offer!

A girl at my work had a tear.  She just came back from work cause it had finallly healed.  She was on bedrest for 3 months.  She is just fine now.

My doc told me this morning that I have a small placental abruption. (i was bleeding bright red blood). I'm on bedrest now and hopefully it will heal itself because it's very very small.  

Your friend should be on bed rest as well as avoiding any abdominal stress or activites that could cause her exhertion. Is she doing this? Hopefully hers will heal as well.. I have to go every 2 weeks for checkups. is any of this the same for her?
