Low lying placenta

This may be a dumb question. I've googled and can't find anything which means the answer is probably no...

But is there anything you can do about a low lying placenta? I know that things like how you sit can influence the position that baby moves in and can help with things like breech babies and I was just wondering if there's anything you can do to encourage a placenta to move into the right place

Re: Low lying placenta

  • I would love to see if anyone has any answers for this since that is what my U/S showed for me.  The dr. said that 90% will move up naturally at the baby grows.  I have been going to a chiropractor after the u/s and i'm wondering if that will help as well.

  • I'm no expert, but I think once it's implanted your stuck with where it's at.
  • Unfortunately not.  The hope is that it will move up and around as the baby grows but does not in every situation.

I was told at my u/s that I had a low-lying placenta, but not to worry about it. They said at 20 weeks it was still really early. They'll check it in a month to make sure it is moving up which it likely will. So, when it moves, it isn't technically the placenta that moves. As the uterus stretches, the area where the placenta is attached kind of moves, kwim? At my last appointment the dr. said she had never actually seen it go the other direction and block the cervix (though in theory it is possible). So, they just do a follow up ultrasound later to make sure.

  • I was told at my 20 week scan that I also had a low lying placenta. Dr. wasnt  worry about it she said with time they usually move. I have another scan at 26 weeks.
