Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Anyone have a 20+lb 6 month old?

Just wondering if his weight will ever slow down! I thought surely by now it would... but nope. He's still gaining about 1 pound a month. I'm not worried or anything (and neither is my pedi) just wondering if there were others out there. People always freak when I tell them what he weighs. (which is 21lbs 10oz to date)

  • I call DD "Godzilla Baby" because she is huge.  Just lately I see that she isn't quite as chubby.  She's still chubby and I'm not sure anyone else notices, but she is definitely getting longer and to me is growing into her weight.

  • My oldest was like that. And people kept telling me he would slow down. No, he didn't. He was over 30 lbs at 1, 37iish lbs at 2, and is 42 lbs at 3. He's also very tall. People always assume he's at least a year older than he is. I'm still waiting for him to slow down.
  • DD was really close to 20 lbs at 6 months. She was 19 lb 9 oz. My pedi told me that they start to slow down around 9 months. Between 1 month and 6 months, she was gaining about 2 lbs a month. Between 6 and 9 (at 9 months she was 23 lb 3 oz) she only gained about a pound a month. I am not sure how much she weighs at 10 months old, but I don't think she's gained another whole pound. Now that she is starting to be mobile, her little pot belly is shrinking.

  • p was 19 lbs when we took him to the dr two weeks ago. he's also super long so he doesn't look like he weighs that much.
  • Max is around 23 lbs, everyone thinks he's older than he is.  He's really long though.

Same here. My 10-mo was over 20 lbs at 6 mos too.

My 9 yo was almost identical to this.  He started getting lean at about 3 when he had a major growth spurt.  He's so tall and skinny now that I can hardly find pants that fit him!

  • My son was 25lbs and 29inches at his 6 month appointment.  I am also waiting on the slow down!
  • McBean weighed  in at a whopping 22.1 ounces at her 6 month appointment!  Our doc is not worried and neither are we.  When I asked how much should she be eating of the stage 2...he said "give her what she wants...I don't care if its four jars of food, just feed her!"  Ha ha...Now I do think that would be a bit excessive.  She eats about 1/2 - 1 jar per meal.  :)

  • Yeah, he's thinning out quite a bit, but he's SO tall. He is so far off the charts in height that there's not even a number for him (he'd be like 125%).
  • DD was 23 lbs at 6 months. Still hasn't slowed down. I'm just hoping she will make it in her 18 and 24 month size clothes this summer and I don't need to go buy any 2T summer clothes, yikes!
  • At DS 6 month appt he was 21 lbs 1 oz and 27" long.  I love having a bigger baby.  I don't feel like he is terribly frail, ya know?
  • At Z's 4 month appt. he was 20.5 lbs and 28.5 in long. ?We go to the pedi next week for his 6 mo appt. ?I can't wait to see his measurements!
