What do you do for your aching back??

I need some help. I am very active and it is killing me just sitting around because my back hurts. Even when I am laying around or just walking it feels like it is on fire. I have an appointment tomorrow, but I am assuming she is just going to say...."it's part of being pregnant"

?Anyone else in the same boat...and did your doctor give you any good advise??

  • I'm sitting on a hot water bottle right now for my sciatic butt issues and it's helping.

  • Best advice my doctor gave me was to wear a maternity support belt.  I work 12 hour shifts on my feet and have been wearing one since about 22 weeks.  It really helps!
  • when i get sore i take a warm bath with epsom salt which helps.  i also have one of those rice packs you can microwave and use to warm sore muscles.  also bouncing on an exercise ball seems to help a little.
  • Hi TobeMIller! I bought one of those things you heat in the microwave and put it on my back where it hurts. It really helps.  It's also great for my shoulders when I am tense.
  • Thank girls. I am going to use my little rice pack. I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner.
  • I have said it sooo many times...

Go to a Chiropractor. My first pregnancy I didn't and I had the worst pain with my sciatic... but this pregnancy, I have been going since I was 4 months a long consistantly. I would go prior but consistantly with my pregnancy.
With your baby growing your bones have to shift and make room. This will throw your spine and hips and such out of alignment. Your Chiropractor will adjust you to help those bones shift into the right positions. I swear by them... I love my chiropractor he is awesome!

It is cool as well, because his wife just had her baby. So me, my SO and my Chiropractor shared stories.. LOL

BTW:Cold is used to reduce swelling. Heat is used to increase circulation. Just info I learned.

  • My childbirth class teacher is also a doula. She had two recommendations. 1. Sit on a yoga ball and rock your hips back and forth. It will take some pressure off of your back.

    2. Have your partner use a rolling pin to give you a massage. Have them press down as hard as you can stand it while they roll.

I've tried both, and find them both to work really well.

  • I have an hour-long massage scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Mmmmmm.... enjoy that for all of us! I had a prenatal massage when I was 7 months. It was ok... not great...

My future MIL (who is fabulous) got me another one but I can't lay on my back without feeling as though I will suffocate. So I will wait and use it after the baby is born.

    ENJOY!!!! You deserve it!!
