IVFers: how did you feel after your egg retrieval?

I've had two rather atypical experiences with egg retrievals. The first time, I hyperstimulated and for a week after the retrieval, I felt like I was going to die. ?Then a couple months ago, I did IVM with very, very light stim meds, and the retrieval was a total breeze. I was back on my feet with no problem the next day.

This past Friday, I had another ER, this time with less medication than a full-on IVF cycle, but much more than my IVM. ?And now, two days later, I still feel likeshit. ?It hurts to pee, I'm completely zonked, and having some trouble moving around. Not to the point of NOT being able to move, but it's not easy, either.

I don't know what's normal, so I have no idea if I should worry. ? What are your experiences?

TIA?

  • My ER was this past Friday also, though I haven't had any symptoms like you described. ?I still feel bloated, but nothing too bad. ?This is my only cycle, so I don't know what's normal, but i'm sorry you're feeling so bad. ?I would definitely call your dr tomorrow and see if they know what's going on.

  • My first ER at the end of Feb. was a breeze, and even though I was close to hyperstimulation, I was pretty much fine by that night/the next morning.  But I just had my second ER on Thursday morning and I still don't feel back to normal.  I spoke with my nurse today and she said as long as I'm not having severe pains along with the other symptoms of hyperstimulation then my discomfort is probably just due to the fact that once again I was very close to hyp. stim. and I had so many follicles that my doctor may have had to go in through each side more than once to get them all out.  I was supposed to have my transfer today but they called and I'll be doing a Day-5 instead so hopefully I'll feel better by then.  If I were you I would just check in with your nurse or doctor.  Hope you feel better, and that your transfer goes well and results in a BFP!!

  • After my ER, I felt pretty bloated and I do seem to remember that it burned when I went to the bathroom. But I think that was just from the catheter that they put in during the retrieval. Other than that, I felt pretty good. I went to a BBQ at my parent's house the next day and felt fine to be up and about. I hope that things get better for you.
  • I've only had one ER this past thursday and that was the only day i really had any issues and it was mostly extreme fatigue and cramping.  I still feel my ovaries are a little "full" now, but they don't hurt and I am not bloated.  As i said though, this was my only one, so I don't know if this is normal or not.
  • I've had two and felt horrible both times. The past one I was hyperstimulated and it hurt to walk, sleep, cough, etc. I really felt just plain horrible. The first one I was extremely bloated. It also hurt to walk. I also ended up with a bladder infection. I also took percocets and vicodin for both which caused extreme constipation. It was really awful. I then had to take a laxative, so then I had the opposite problem. This time I'm going to try and sweat out the pain, so I don't end up so constipated. It's so not worth it!  I hope you are feeling better soon!
