I can't stop freaking out re Ben's eyes

We saw his pedi on Friday and she didn't really have a good answer for what could be causing his pupils to dilate differently.  She didn't offer up ANYTHING, just referred us right away to the pedi opthamologist.  Who of course has a mile long wait to be seen.

I'm just so nervous.  I of course Googled it, and found all these horrible neurological things (brain tumors, etc) that could cause it.  I seriously cannot stop freaking out.  I vowed to stay away from the computer, and I was really good about it until his Friday appt, but then when she gave me no answers I got scared again and here I am.  :(

  • I'm so sorry. I know how scary it is to know that something is wrong with your child but have to wait to find out. Could you have Ben's pedi to call the opthamologist personally to see if they can get him in sooner? Or call and ask to be placed on the cancellation list to be moved up in case someone cancels.

  • We just brought my son this past week b/c his one pupil is bigger than the other. The dr did several different tests on him and he is normal. Dr said 10 out of 20 kids are born this way and they can grow out of it..I too was a nervous wreck after googling it all..Good Luck
  • Does your medical insurance require a referal or are you able to go to a specialist without a referal? If you don't need a referal you could call around and see if any other pediatric opthamologists could get her in sooner.
  • If it makes you feel better, I was born with uneven pupils, and 34 years later still have them.  Not a thing wrong, just uneven pupils.  It is apparently more common than we realize.  Good luck!
  • Awww, I'm sorry you have to wait and worry!  You know the chances are really high that it's nothing at all, or something really simple, but of course the urge to go straight to "worst case scenario" is hard to resist.  **hugs**
  • I had a co-worker who had this and it was nothing.  I would totally be googling and freaking out too, but just wanted to let you know it doesn't always mean something bad!  I also had a doctor explain to me once that when you google a disease or something you always see the really bad b/c those are the cases that get published etc.  So the worst case scenario's tend to be shown much more then the routine/not bad scenarios!

Just to reiterate what is said above that the worse case scenarios also get the most attention and views so that it why websites willl publish that stuff too.
