Help w/relocation to Deerfield area

We may be relocating to the Deerfield area in the next few months. Any advice on areas to live in or avoid? We have a 2 year old and one on the way. We'd like a commute to Deerfield to be under 45 minutes, I don't know if that's even possible.

TIA

Re: Help w/relocation to Deerfield area

  • My sister loves living in Deerfield-great schools, park district, lots of fsmilies with young children. Her husband works in the city and takes Metra.  The commute is 45 minutes at best. There's no other way. If you drive, it can be up to 1:30.  People get used to it and consider it a small price to pay to live in a great community.

  • I would look at www.metrarail.com and search the line for the communities along it. You would look at the Milwaukee District North Line train.

Deerfield is beautiful, but so is Glenview, Libertyville, etc. We are in Libertyville and love it. Grayslake is less expensive, but taxes are higher and the school district is iffy in certain areas.

  • I live in Deerfield, and it's been great.  But we are moving to Hawthorn Woods soon.  Deerfield is very convenient to the city (something I'll miss when I live in Hawthorn Woods) ... especially with Metra.  Depending on how much you want to spend, housing can be expensive, but there are some great deals right now depending on where you want to live and how much updating you want to do.  The yards are bigger in North Trail area, if that matters to you.  Where I live, (not sure of the name of the development), the yards are like postage stamps.  Not much privacy.  Which is one reason why we are moving to Hawthorn Woods.
