Colorado Babies

Move to Littleton?

We are looking to buy a house before our baby arrives and I need some input. Ideally we would like to buy in Denver but are having a difficult time finding a place in our price range that meets our criteria (which are pretty reasonable and modest). We have found a place in Littleton within walking distance to Old Town Littleton. My questions for folks that live out there - how is the commute into downtown? do you use the light rail or is it more trouble than it is worth? Where is your day care (if you use day care)? Thanks!

Re: Move to Littleton?

  • Hi there-

My husband and I live in Littleton and are expecting our first baby!  We live by Marston lake, which is west of where you're looking if you're looking in Old Town.  I can say this-there are plenty of restaurants my friend!  Littleton is a pretty quiet community-lots of families both young and those with older kids as well.  The commute to downtown Denver is not a terrible one, as long as you take that trip at the right time of day or evening.  From where you are looking to live, the main thuroughfare to downtown would be either Santa Fe or I-25-both which have "good" times of day to travel on and "bad".  Since Littleton is a large suburb of Denver, obvious nightmare travel into the city is between 6:30am and 9am, and 4pm and 6pm.

I am originally from Boulder and my husband is from Broomfield, so staying on the Front Range was something that didn't originally interest us.  I found myself comparing everything in Littleton to Boulder-and not sure if I wanted to re-live my childhood all over again!  I will say, though-it is a safe, low key place to be.

We have not looked into daycare yet, but have heard from friends in our area that a lot of people look at daycare in Highlands Ranch.

I hope this helps a little!

  • Thanks! That is great information. We have made an offer on a house near Old Town and hope to make the move in July. We hope to avoid some of those commuting nightmares by using the lightrail. What are some of those restaurants you mentioned? We love eating out and want to take full advantage before baby arrives. Thanks again! Kristin
  • Our favorite breakfast place is toast. I went to Merle's the other night and they have a great little patio. It is casual bar food with a fun atmosphere. We live over by southwest plaza and love it here!
