How to teach a 2yo to drink out of a regular cup?

My 2yo had drank from a sippy cup since he was 9 months old. He is in a new room at daycare and they want him to drink from a regular cup. How can I help him with this? He is resisting this and I worried that he is a little young. Any thoughts?

  • give him one of those small tupperware cups. fill it half full with water during a meal and let him go at it. (it helps if you have a bib that will catch what doesn't make it to his mouth). He may surprise you!

    Good luck!

  • Get some of those little paper bathroom cups.  They're nice and small for their hands and easy for them to manipulate.  Also from what I've seen, the daycares and preschools use small paper cups like these so it will be an easy transition.

  • Start out by giving him a small cup of water or milk in the bathtub. The fun of getting a drink while he bathes will probably make him willing to try. Once he's got the mechanics of it down, offer it at snacks in his chair, then at meals. Be prepared for spills, either on accident or intentional. Also be prepared for him to refill his cup with bath-waterTongue Tied

  • We use some tiny little cups from IKEA. They're almost doll-house sized (ok, we originally bought them to use as cheap shot glasses, but they sell them in the kids toys section)

Anyway, she does really really well drinking with them... until she decides to shove her fingers in there. or pour it on her food. Or dump it in her lap. Our next practice session will occur outside in a swimsuit.
