Do you have a step stool for the potty?

DD has been "practicing" on a little potty for what seems like forever, so we decided that starting today we are going cold turkey with the potty training. We went out this morning and got some more panties for DD and one of those potty rings for the big toilet. I would really like to switch her to only going on the big potty and she has taken to it very well today and only had one small accident so far. The problem is that I need to lift her up on to the toilet so that she can go and I really want her to be able to be as independent as possible with this whole thing. So, should I get a stool? Where did you get yours? Is there something special that I need? Oh, and how much? We'll need to get one for each of our 2 bathrooms so I don't want to break the bank.

Re: Do you have a step stool for the potty?

  • We have Ikea step stools.  They were cheap but are very sturdy.  We've had them since DD1 was pting.

  • We just have a little one from Target (they have cute wooden ones, but if you want cheap, they have plastic ones in the cleaning section that are still very sturdy).   Our problem is that it's not quite high enough, and the other height is way TOO high, so we still have to help her onto the potty--we also have oval toilet seats and every potty ring we've found still slides around in there a bit, and that doesn't help, either!

  • Yes, the cheap little pink plastic one from Target.  DD never had a little potty, we started her with the step stool and ring to avoid problems later.

It's handy.  She uses it to wash her hands and brush her teeth too.

This is another big reason why I know we need to get something. Right now she stands on the toilet and leans over to the sink to wash her hands and brush her teeth and I know that it is not safe at all.?

  • We have a step stool and tried to use it, but it's not quite tall enough. Plus, DD is not willing to pull her pants down and can't manage to not sit on her dress even if she's running around bare bottomed. So assistance is always required anyway - I was just trying to save myself some back strain, but no such luck.

  • Yes, a plastic step stool.  We got ours from Target for less than $10 several years back.
