staying in a hotel with 2 kids?

dd1 is 4.5 and we've literally never stayed in a hotel with her.  We've gone on vacations, but stayed in condos or with friends, never hotels.  We're considering Disney for the fall, but it would be me, DH, dd1 = almost 5 yo and dd2 = almost 2 yo.  Is this a nightmare?  I can't decide if we should adjust where we go on vacation so 2 rooms are possible (affordable) or if we should just suck it up and do this.  my concern is shelling out a lot of money for the vacation and having everyone cranky, uncomfortable, overtired, etc.

has anyone stayed in a hotel room with dcs for a week at a time?  how was it?  did ANYONE sleep?

  • We do hotels with my girls and we only get 1 room.  The girls usually fall asleep then DH and I will watch tv.  We get a room with 2 bed and we each take a bed with 1 DD.  It has worked out for us with no problems.  We are doing Disney in Oct and we got 1 room

  • You might consider looking into a place like Embassy Suites or something similar - there are then two "rooms" in your space, making it easier to separate the children (or the children from you!)  The extra space is nice during the day, too for playing, etc.

  • We went to mexico with DD and have traveled with her before and always had one room. Even when we were growing up there were 4 kids, My parents slept in one bed, my sister and I slept in the other and my brothers slept on rollaways

This is what we do when we travel with our kids.  Usually we all sleep in the same room, but DH & I can have some alone time in the LR after the kids go to bed.

  • The only problems we have are with getting the girls to sleep.  DD#2 wakes up easily with us around even though she shares a room and sleeping through DD#1's screaming sometimes.  Just not the noises she's used to, I guess.  My girls (especially DD#2) will not fall asleep with us in the room.  DD#1 was like that too at her age, and it was a nightmare at a cousin's wedding.  DH and I ended up reading books in the bathroom waiting for her to fall asleep.  Now, whenever possible, we get a suite where we can at least put the girls down and close the door.  We also travel a lot with my parents and get connecting rooms whenever we can so we can hang out in their room until the girls are sleeping.  Will your kids go to sleep with you in the room reading or watching TV quietly?  Even if you can get a balcony to sit out on while they fall asleep that's enough (assuming the weather is nice).  Oh and we get two double/queen beds.  DD#2 is still in a pnp but she'll sleep in the same bed as DD#1 when she gets older.  They share a room already and sometimes nap together on the floor anyway.  DD#1 sleeps in her sleeping bag on the bed (because she loves her sleeping bag) and DH and I in the other bed right now.
