How should I transition my 10 m.o. into day care?

I'm starting DD in day care next week--until now my mother has been able to watch her, and I had a more flexible job, but in about three weeks I'll be starting a full time position so we're starting day care. I know it's going to be tough since DD has never been watched by anyone but my mom, sister, or DH, and I'm wondering how best to transition her. We don't need to get up to a full day at the center until July 1st. What would you suggest? Spending time with her there for a few days, then leaving her for a few hours at a time for a while? Any advice and descriptions of your own experiences would be appreciated!

  • I'd see if you can leave her there for a few hours. Do you know anyone who goes there? maybe have some kids over for a 'playdate' at first to make 'friends' that she knows when she goes.

  • Many daycares have integration programs.  We start next week for 1 hour, with me there.  The following week would be 1 hour without me.  They go with his signals and decide how much integration time he will need.  He starts full time June 22.  I am off that week and will probably do 1/2 days. The following week I go back to work for 1/2 days and will pick him up at lunch. The following week is full time, all day.
