Maybe as a mn for?sentimental?purposes since it is a family name but other than that probably not. I may have slight?dyslexia?but the first thing that pops out at me is Devil... maybe you could use it for a girl but spell it Devlyn, but even then.
for a mn, sure, but not for the first name. It reminds me of devilled eggs.
this cracked me up.
i've heard the devil thing before. in fact when i was little i thought it was pronounced devil-in instead of dev-lin. it's just like devon but with an L.

My BF's daughter's name is Devlynn. They've been calling her Devvie for short, obviously not a nn that would be good once she's older. NMS really, but it's grown on me.
I knew of a guy named Devlin in high school (he was a math genius, not that that applies to you, but that's why I remember him so well lol). It definitely seems more masculine to me, and I don't like that it's sounds so similar to devil. I personally wouldn't use it.
I probably wouldn't use it for a little girl, but I don't mind it for a little boy; and would prefer it as a middle name.
This is REALLY corny but I play World of Warcraft and it reminds me of a quest where you have to kill a Devlin. Of course, I wouldn't consider this info at all in choosing whether or not to use the name. Just a quirky thing that pops up in my head.
It's a common enough surname that I think it can work well as a middle name. I personally wouldn't use it as a first name, but if i heard it I'd assume boy -- but maybe that's because in college I knew a guy named Devin & it's kind of close.
it's actually the middle name for a number of my family members. i don't really plan on using it for a first name, but was just curious what people's reactions would be.
and fwiw i would never do devin. i'm not into changing a name that has meaning. either it's meaningful and you use it or it's not.

Knowing its a family name, I kinda like it. and I like the idea someone posted about using Devlyn for a girl!
My first thought upon seeing the name was deviled eggs....NMS. I've known a couple Devin/Devons though.

lol me too!
I don't like Devlin, but Devin was at the very top of my Girl Name list before I found out I was having a boy. I'd only use Devin for a girl.
I just don't like Devlin w/ the "l".
