Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What was your favorite game or activity at your baby shower?

I'm planning a baby shower for my cousin who is due in September and need some different ideas.  Please tell me your favorite activity or game (or anything random) from your baby shower or one you've been to!

TIA!

Re: What was your favorite game or activity at your baby shower?

  • My favorite thing about my shower was no games or activities.  They drive me nuts.
  • Loading the player...
  • SO glad we did not do games. We talked, had lunch, laughed a ton, opened gifts, had cake and a great time.
  • I made cute little trivia booklets. 1 page of multiple choice fun facts, 1 page of baby word scrambles, 1 page of nursery rhyme riddles.

    Ditto.

    A couple of favorites:

The dirty diaper game:  Melt different candy bars and put them in numbered diapers.  Guests guess what candy is in each diaper.

Guess that food:  Get a bunch of different baby foods in jars.  Peel off labels and number jars.  Guests guess what food is in each jar.

Make a baby:  Get a bunch of small Play-Doh containers and have each guest make a baby out of the Play-Doh.  Mom-to-be (and dad-to-be) can choose the winner.

  • We didn't have interactive games, per se, but we did do a couple fun things:

Set a timer (we used an oven timer) when you start opening gifts. When the timer goes off, whoever's gift is being opened gets a prize.

We taped baby rattles and pacifiers under a couple of people's chairs. Toward the end of the meal, we asked everyone to reach under their chair to see if they won a prize. And then mama got to keep the rattles and pacifiers.

I did do one game at the last shower I was at and it wasn't so horrible ... we stuck names of famous moms on the backs of each guest and then you had to interact with people to find out what famous mom you were. It worked out at that shower because there were so many people there that didn't know each other, so it was a good ice breaker.

But I'm usually pretty anti-baby shower games :)

  • Eating.

    I hate games.

Momma to three boys: Henry - 4yo Alex - 18mo Jack - born 2/23/12 at 20w due to ruptured uterus (previa and accreta resulting in hysterectomy) He only lived here on Earth for an hour, but he will live in our hearts forever. m/c #1: sept '09, m/c #2: july '10
  • I hate games too, except for bingo. It seems to make the opening of gifts part more fun for the guests Smile

  • I'm also in the "So glad there weren't any games." My shower wasn't very traditional.... it was small and at a yummy upscale pizza restaraunt.

I wanted to shudder thinking about the "cut the string so it fits the mom-to-be's belly" game.

  • Well, thanks ladies! I may take your advice and forego the games... I may just do door prizes or the timer thing.  I hate hosting a shower where there are games so it makes sense that the guests hate them too! LOL

OMG ... I had to do this at my old boss' baby shower (a woman I wasn't fond of whatsoever). So uncomfortable ... makes me shudder, too!

  • We played a game that we had to match the kid's TV show name with a picture of the character or cast. It was pretty funny since most of us didn't have kids or whose kids were all grown. We also did BINGO while I opened gifts and it seemed to keep everyone entertained.?

I went to one where everyone had to bring a baby photo of themself. Then we had to try to guess who was who. It was fun and neat to see everyone's baby pictures.?

Things I was ?glad not to do: taste baby food, guess how big mommy is with toilet paper?

Ditto.  Games are lame.  Just have some good food, let everyone talk, etc.

i didn't have a baby shower (not a tradition for jews), but i ditto this comment for my wedding shower. i was actually thanked for not having games at my sister's bridal shower.

  • Thanks for the ideas!!! Now I need to figure out what food to have.  It'll just be finger foods.
  • Baby bingo played while I opened gifts. It made people excited about what I was opening..becuase generally, it's not that much fun to watch someone open presents, but if you could win a prize too, well...
