Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Transitioning From Sleep Sack To Blanket

Here where we live, the humidity and heat levels are rediculous, and DS is still in a fleece sleep sack. DH & I are considering 'weaning' him off of it and giving him a blanket, but just wanted to see if anyone else did it, and if you did, how it went and around what age you did it at.

TIA

Re: Transitioning From Sleep Sack To Blanket

  • You can buy plain, lightweight cotton sleep sacks at BRU.  We still have SP in a sleep sack.

  • We use the lightweight cotton sleepsacks when DS needs them.  One nights when it's too warm (as I'm sure it will soon get), he'll just wear jammies or a onsie.  DS isn't ready for a blanket, and I'm not ready to risk it yet.
  • I use a blanket on DS during naps and he loves it.  In the beginning, he played with it a lot and didnt sleep, but he got used to it.  Now, I dont put a sleep sack on just bc if its warm in my house the air isnt on yet (like say 74, its not on), so even the cotton one is to much at that point.  But, since it does get cooler overnight, I give him a crocheted blanket if need be since it has holes and I feel comfortable using it.
  • I stopped using sleep sacks on DD when she was 6 months old and started using a blanket. She actually likes it more, she likes to nuzzle it against her face like a lovey.

  • DS is still using his sleep sack, but we got the lighter cotton sack. I am going to see how he does over the summer to wean him from it. He has taken naps without it so I am hoping by his 1st birthday he will be using just blankets.
