How many baby gates do you have?

I feel like I'm constantly stepping over or opening a gate to get around in our house! We have one leading to the laundry room to keep him out of the dog bowls and safely away from the washer/dryer. We have one to keep him in the living room (a huge one that runs all the way across the room). One at the bottom of the steps and one at the top of the steps. I will not be sad to see them go one day.

Re: How many baby gates do you have?

  • Just one.
It's located at the top of our finished basement (leads to his toy room).
The rest of the rooms, I just leave open. If he gets into something he shouldn't, I close that room's door.

  • we have WAAAY too many gates, all necessary though, unfortunately!  Our house is tall and skinny, with 3 staircases.  So we have a gate blocking the basement stairs that come up into the kitchen, a gate blocking stairs to second floor, gate at top of second floor stairs, and then gate we use to block bottom of stairs to third floor.  We also have a gate we sometimes put up to block the dogs from the room.  So, how many is that?  5?

  • We have two.  One at the bottom of the stairs so she can't go up them and one between the living room and dining room.  I agree....they are a pain!

  • Just two.  One at the bottom of our steps and another 12 ft. gate across two hallways and our garage door.  Both of them block off our den which is the only place he plays freely.  Its a really big space so I don't feel the need to babyproof the rest of the house.

  • Two.  Only one is for baby, though.  That one is at the top of the stairs (we have a split level) but we also have one to keep the dogs in the "dog room" (the family room) while we're at work.

  • We have one in the kitchen.  And I hate it when DH locks it!  Its next to a book shelf that keeps it shut if you don't lock it.  Well since I am in and out all day I don't lock it.  But DH always does and I don't know how many times I have almost flipped over that stupid thing!  I think its unlocked so I go to lift and push and walk at the same time.  But I am the only thing moving!  UGH it makes me so made.  And if I do flip over it one time DH is getting his A$$ kicked! lol

  • Just 1, at the top of the stairs. He's not a stair climber yet, but when he does, I'll just move it downstairs as needed.
  • Just one. We don't have a screen on our front door, so when we want to leave the door open for some air we put up the babygate to keep dd from escaping outside. Otherwise we never actually use one in the house- I just shut doors if I want her to stay out of a room.

Two.  One at the top of the stairs and one at the bottom.  The one at the top is mounted, but there isn't room to mount the one at the bottom.  It's a huge PITA.  But, we do sometimes move it to the kitchen or dining room if we need to keep M corralled for a short period of time.
  • Wow, reading this makes me feel like a freak.  We have 5! We have one to keep her out of the kitchen, one to keep her out of the hall (bedrooms and bath), one to keep her away from a wall length monster bookcase, one to blockade the computer desk, and one going around the fireplace.  The three that go around things are superyards that we use flat.  One tricky part, is that we have lever style door handels and DD knows how to open doors, so closing doors won't work for us.  The plus side is that I can leave her in the livingroom/library area (the largest part of our house) and go take a shower and there's nothing she can get into.

  • 5, but 2 are more for the dogs than the baby. ?I HATE baby gates
  • 4 but we only use 2 of them.  If we do hang out upstairs where all the bedrooms are then I will put up a gate.  We used to block off the garage entrance so she wouldn't crawl into the dirty and shoes but she is old enough now to stay out on her own.
