are AWFUL. I spent 5 hours in one last night hooked up to an IV and when it was time to go, I could hardly move. I will be requesting extra pillows when I go into labor - that was horrific.
My L&D bed was actually really comfortable....what sucked was the triage bed. Little more than a cot, and they told me to "get some sleep" there until my room opened up. Fat chance!

I could have been in a defunct one but it felt like there was a 2 x 4 where my ass was supposed to be... when I finally got up to pee, I could hardly move!
And baby and I are fine, I had the flu and got too dehydrated... we're back on track now.
My triage bed was way more comfortable because it did have this super weird dip in it and I could stretch out properly. But the antepartum beds are wonderful. I simply curled up in them and would always slip below the bend.
Hopefully when it's actually time for me to go into LnD I wont have my IV in the crook in my arm, preventing me for bending the darn then..And hopefully I can roll over to my side more, because being on my back just makes me toss too much.
It was nice to get a preview of what my rooms could look I will say that...
I was hospitalized a few times in L&D in 1st tri, once for almost 48 hours and I looooved my bed. I even commented when I was discharged that I wished I could take the bed home with me.?
L&D beds are very uncomfortable. I haven't been hospitalized in one yet, but I work nights in L&D and on occasion when all the couches in the break room are taken I'll take a nap on our spare one in the back. It's that darn break in the bed where the end comes off for delivery.
I think the complaint I've heard the most from patients is how much the hospital pillows suck, they are flimsy and wimpy. I suggest bringing old pillows for you and for DH. Or buy some cheap $5 pillows at Ross that you don't mind ruining.

At the hospital where I will deliver, the beds that you labor/deliver in are awful. SO uncomfortable. But, after delivery they switch you to a regular hospital bed (same room, just switch beds). They were actually very comfortable! Hopefully you just got a defunct bed and they'll be more comfortable when you're there next time!
The L&D Beds are definitely not comfortable...be sure to bring extra pillows from home. The pillows are super flat, you might as well not even use one if that's all your going to have.
