Baby Names

Gardner (Boy)...NN help

DH and I really like Gardner for a boy (for our phantom baby)... it is a family name (MIL's maiden name) and one of the only names we both like.

I am struggling to figure out what nicknames work for Gardner?  Any ideas?

Re: Gardner (Boy)...NN help

  • Gard? I think that was the Uncle in the Samantha American Girl Doll books... but that was set in 1904ish so it's not a common NN by any means. Not sure of any other NNs....

  • Ardy? (like Arty) not a fan of it, but you could use that.

Aww, Uncle Gard and Aunt Cornelia! They were great!

There are no real ones I can think of besides Gard, Gardie, and maybe Gardnie. I'd stick with straight up Gardner.

  • While I don't think you have to plan out a nickname (see what just happens), you could use just "G".

I have a cousin who was named Gregg after his grandpa.  They call him "Little G" and it rather suits him.  I'm sure it will shorten to just "G" when he's a bit older...

  • Gard is all that occurs to me. I immediately thought of Uncle Gard from the Samantha books too. ?They were set in 1910. I kind of like it.

  • How about call him Gardner and forget the NN? I would say that most people don't even have nicknames and I didn't even know parents planned nicknames until I started reading this board. Isn't the point of a nickname that it evolves on its own and represents some kind of endearment?
