My name is "jennifer" but go by shorter versions. is it too wierd to name a daughter something similar to a nickname I go by (Jenna?)

*I might add that DH and my parents are the only ones who call me "jenna" My friends all know me as jenn.* 

 

What do you think of the name Jemma?

I don't think it's any weirder then having a Jr. it may get confusing as she grows. I think both of you will be saying "Did you say Jenna or Jemma??" a lot. If that doesnt bother you then Go for it!

My friend is worried about the same thing.  Her name is Jennifer and she likes Jensen and Genevieve, but is worried it'd be too weird.  I think Jemma is fine, but I like it spelled Gemma better.

Made up? What does that even mean? All names are made up in the first place.

Honestly, it's NMS... but I like Gemma better even though Jem reminds me of the doll with the light up earrings. LOL

I like Gemma, but really don't like it spelled Jemma. It reminds me of Jam or something. I don't know. Gemma makes me think of sparkly gems. It also makes it seem less similar to Jenna.

I like the name Gemma but not spelled Jemma. My moms middle name is Gem and she has always gone by Gemme (like a girly version of jimmy) because she doesn't like her first name.

If it were my child and *me,* then, yes, I do think they sound too similar, but I would never judge a person for choosing a similar name for their child.

That's funny; it's quite a traditional British name. But when it's spelled Jimma, it's redneck.   I know a Jimma.
