How many graduations does a kid have??

I was lurking on 3rd tri and there was a mom who just found out about her son's sixth grade graduation.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I had one real graduation during my school years---HS graduation. (later also had a college graduation)

Then another mom posted about a fifth grade graduation. What is up with all of these graduations??

I think for fun, my preschool had one where we wore construction paper hats and sang a few songs for the parents.

How many graduations did you have?

  • One.  I don't get this either!  I mean, the Preschool or Kindergarten ones are cute, but 5th and 6th grade!?!?  WTF?!
  • The school system I attended school in did 3: kindergarten, 8th grade, & high school.  They did cap and gown in kindergarten and high school.  Middle school was just nice clothes and a choir performance.  It was pretty lame.
  • I had one in:

Kindergarten, 5th grade, 8th grade, HS, and College

Oh, I forgot about college!  LOL  I guess I had 2 then! :)

  • High school, college, and soon to be med school.  That's it, and IMO nothing before high school really counts.  You shouldn't get a graduation every time you finish a grade.
  • We had the 6th grade graduation in elementary school, not the kindergarten one, though.

  • highschool then college.  i think the kindergarten ones are cute though.
  • Grade 8, high school and university.
  • The preschool/kindergarden ones are cute! But I don't get having a graduation every time you move to the next school (elementary to middle school, middle to high school).
  • It really doesn't make sense in the elementary and middle schools I went to.  They were in the same building, for crying out loud!
  • Two: high school and college. And my district had us hopping around, too. K-4 in one school, 5&6 in another, 7&8 in another and 9-12 in another.

I only showed up for my HS graduation ceremony. I didnt bother with the college ceremony.

  • I had kindergarten (everyone signed the caps and I still have mine), 8th grade, high school and college.

If some school systems have elementary school graduation ceremonies, that would explain the 5th and 6th grades, as some districts have 6th grade with the middle school (hence the 5th grade grad) and others don't.

  • I had a preschool/daycare graduation and high school.

I agree though, there are seem to be a lot of new ones now. My daughter had a daycare graduation and she is going to have a kindergarden graduation next week. I'm not sure of how many more there are to come now.

these are the one's I had (I'll be adding grad school soon) - people really didn't graduate from Jr. High? Odd.

  • 8th grade, high school, college, law school.  I think having them before high school is dumb, personally

  • Schools are doing them whenever they leave to attend a new school.  I hate it when they call the ceremony a graduation.  I had one school call it a "steppin up" ceremony; not much better but at least it wasn't a graduation.  For 8th grade, I swear it's just a reason for parents to spend a lot of money on a very skimpy, too adult dress for their 14 year-old.  Last year my jaw dropped when I saw what some of the 8th graders were wearing.  No way will my DD look like a hooker going up to receive a certificate!

I had kindergarten, 8th grade, High School, B.A. and I will walk next Spring for my M.A. (God willing) and in three years for my PhD.

so that makes me a grand total of 7
