I'm hosting a family bridal shower for my cousin--2 pm on a Sunday afternoon. The guests will be my aunts and a couple cousins. So it will definitely be a more "mature" crowd.
We're doing a couple light appetizers and cheesecake or cupcakes. I'd like to do a "game" but obviously nothing like TP brides with the older crowd.
Anyone have any tips for me?!? Game ideas? Party ideas? I have NO creativity or party planning ability.
TIA!
Re: So NPR, but need bridal shower ideas!
I like gift Bingo. It helps the bride b/c people are actually paying attention to the gift opening, so she doesn't have to shout to thank people. Also, I would think Bingo will go over well with the mature crowd without too much explanation needed.
What about doing something simple for a game. Such as while she's opening her gifts set a timer to go off every 5 minutes (or so, depending on how fast/slow she opens) and when the timer goes off the giver of the gift she's in the process of opening gets a prize.
I'm not a drinker so I'd probably just do water, lemonade or tea, and soda.
As for a theme...I just went to one that had tea cups and saucers. It was very nicely done and looked beautiful.
As for a game...my DD's friend did this for my DD's shower. You pass around a box wrapped several times in tissue paper (each layer a different color...alternate) while music plays. When the music stops the person holidng the box takes off one layer of paper. Then the music starts again. When a person takes off the very last layer of paper they are allowed to open the box. Before the game starts everyone is told that in the box is a pair of bloomers and whoever takes off the last layer of paper has to wear the pair of bloomers for the remainder of the shower. You will want to do this game fairly early. This game gets a lot of laughter and the box is like a "hot potato" because no one wants to wear bloomers. When the box is opened the person is pleasantly surprised to find a corsage made with two flowers (pair of bloomers). This game would be great for a mature crowd. Be sure to carefully wrap the corsage though since it does get thrown around. The host wrapped it in bubble wrap I think.
