PSA re: baptismal info

To those who still have a bit to go...if you plan on having your LO baptized, look into it NOW!  I called our church last week and realized they have the prep class the first Monday of every other month and they recommend going before LO is born.  Luckily I'm going tonight but DH won't be home until after it's over so I'm on my own Tongue Tied  After the class, we'll be able to choose which Sunday we want the baptism on which is really nice. I just wasn't expecting to go at 39w!

  • I realized this too when I read it in our church bulletin last week! ?We go next week....what do they do in a baptism class anyway!?

  • We go to a small church with like maybe 150 people on sundays all together. So we just have to call and set up an appt with pastor.?

  • Good advice!

The good news is that baptism doesn't *have* to happen immediately, so if you get "behind" usually you're still ok. I know churches' policies vary, though.

  • I don't know what it covers but ours is from 7:30-9 and I'm sure there's stuff I'm supposed to discuss with DH...oh well, I guess since he can't make it, I get to decide our LO's religious future!!!
  • every church is different... so you should check and see.

my church does them during normal services- so any sunday works... and the pastor meets with your privately for the "class" only if you are not a member of the church -for members there is no class.

  • Glad you posted this.  I was dragging my feet and decided to call right after I read your post.  The class is tomorrow night, and if we miss that one, the next one isn't til the beginning of August!  So we're definitely getting it out of the way tomorrow!  Thanks!
  • What a PITA ? I just found out our parish only does baptisms one day a month! ?We were hoping to have it while my parents and his parents are in town from California and Ireland, 6,000 miles in either direction, except they're not here the day they're doing baptisms that month! ?Apparently it's a "hard and fast" rule and can't be changed. ?I'm glad I looked into it, since I have to find another church nearby that can do it now! ?Blaaaaaaah!
