Natural way to boost underactive thyroid?

I went in for my yearly physical last week, and the doctor thinks I may have an underactive thyroid.  I was wondering if anyone knew any natural ways to help boost my thyroid...I really don't want to take the hormone supplements...

  • I think iodine. But, I can't remember if that is for under or over active. I think under, though. Google it. iodine+thyroid

  • If you're bound and determined to do it without meds, will your doc agree to monitor your thyroid levels as you futz with it via naturopathy?

Iodine is recommended, but largely as a more natural way to make minor adjustments to the part of your thyroid that functions as a backup, which can get wonky in response to impacting primary thyroid function.  Too much can make you dangerously close to hyperthyroid, which feels great for about two weeks, but requires much more drastic treatment if it winds up staying hyper.  If you can get your doc to agree to monitor you while you tackle it on your own, look into seaweed supplements and lamb pituitary, both of which have good track records in evening out borderline hypothyroid conditions.  GL!
