Trying to Get Pregnant

Anyone have/had gall bladder problems?

I know, I know... no one is a doctor, call my doctor, blah blah blah.  But I am on travel and stuck and I know that the doc is going to say COME IN and I can't.  SO...

I am having pain about 5 inches above my belly button.  Its horizontal below my boobs.  I thought maybe I pulled my diaphragm muscle because I did a bit too much lifting yesterday, but it has increased and decreased within just 12 hours.

So... I ate two really fatty meals out yesterday and the pain increased.  I woke up and had fruit for breakfast and have had minimal dull pain today.  Sound like a gall bladder issue?  I may try fatty food for lunch to confirm.... ugh.

Re: Anyone have/had gall bladder problems?

  • Sorry, can't help much.  When I had GB problems, I had really bad bowel movements (sorry TMI).  I was going to the bathroom like 10 times a day with cramping.  I never had the pain though.  I would still call your dr though, and maybe he can tell you something to try to relieve it.

  • When I had gall bladder pain (in was removed in 2000) it was a sharp stabbing pain on my right side, like someone was stabbing me with an ice pick over and over. There was some chest pain as well that good ol' Kaiser equated to heartburn and sent me home. Both times I had attacks it was after eating pizza, the second time I would double over in pain every couple of minutes and the nurse tried to convince me I was having a baby. It took me screaming at her that I was bleeding out of my vag for her to drop that idea!

  • Gernerally GB pain will radiate to your back, and start on the right side. Have you had any nausea/vomiting or diarrhea? That, with the pain worsening with fatty foods, might point toward GB. The only way to be sure is to see your doc, so I would as soon as you get back if the pain persists, or you get a fever, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. GL

Exactly this. Only difference for me was that it was mostly sugary foods (in addition to fatty foods) that caused my pain. I lived off of water, milk and bread for a whole summer...and was still vomiting 2-3 mornings a week.

    It was an awesome diet.

    j/k.

  • I've never had GB issues but my mom did when she was pregnant with my sister.  Not to scare you but she ended up with an emergency c-section a few weks before her due date because it ruptured & she was projectile vomiting non stop.  She had attacks on & off before this; she said it was a radiating pain in her back & gut.  GL!

  • Are you sure its not heartburn or acid reflux?

  • thanks gals.  No nausea or vomitting so that's a good sign!

It's definitely not heartburn - I get that and its a totally different pain!  Heart burn never increases when I raise my arms over my head or shift positions.

It totally could be just normal baby stretching and I am hoping it is, but of course, I get on webmd and google and find all this other crap!

    Will call the doctor today!

  • Sounds like it could be. However, when I had my gallbladder attack it was the worst pain I had ever experienced. It went all the way around my body and settled in my back. How much longer are you going to be gone for? I would NOT eat a fatty lunch if possible. The pain may sky rocket past where it has been for you so far. When you have gall stones pain is caused by the gallstones getting stuck in the "neck" of your gall bladder. They can stay there, inflame your gallbladder and get infected. Why risk it. Just eat well, rest, and drink your fluids until you can get back and see your dr.

    this.

And I was sick for about a year (in 1995) prior to all the meds being over the counter.  Took pepcid, zantac, etc.  After having an U/S, and the upper/lower GI, they determined I had SEVERE issues w/my gallbladder.

It is VERY common for women who are having or have had a child (not the case for me) to have GB issues and to have it removed post pregnancy.

I would go through cycles where I could only have liquids, then bland foods, then I'd try real food and the cycle would start all over again.

GL and hope you feel better!!!
