I have been a PC all of my life, and I purchased my MacBook about 3 weeks ago (I just missed the cool promotion, if you're in education, you can get ?free ipod touch).?
I love my MacBook (white, cheapest one, meets all my needs).
I even?purchased?the iWork software instead of Microsoft Office. It will open doc and docx files, and will safe files as doc. ?So far, so good. I love Numbers, their spreadsheet (and I'm a math teacher!)
I NEVER though I would buy a mac, but I am in love!?
ETA: MY experiences with Dell in the past few years have not been good. I have not purchased anything from them in the last three years, so my info may be old.?
I really really want a mac, but I'm not sure I want to spend that much money, if you don't mind my asking, how much was yours? I am a teacher so that would be cool to get the touch for free!
DH is always in charge of the computer purchases but he uses Cyberpower and builds his own. You pick the pieces you want and they do the actual building part. He swears that it is the most cost effective way to get the most for your money.

Same with my DH but he uses NewEgg.com ... he built his computer for only $700 and it is really fast and really good. Now I am jealous of it.
I have to respectfully disagree with the PP that says to stay away from Dell. My family all together has 5 dell computers (desktops and laptops), and have had no significant issues at all. The only computer we have had a problem with is an HP desktop running Vista. But I think it's a Vista issue more than anything else.
I bought my dell XPS M140 laptop about 3 years ago, and have had nothing but good experiences. I've had to call for a couple of repair issues, and the service people are very prompt and problems are always fixed.
Granted my DH is an IT guy, and he has done his own things with my laptop - removing certain unncecssary programs that were slowing things down, etc... but it's a very serviceable laptop. I can't see getting something else in the near future.
Also - my DH is a Mac and I'm a PC... he swears my next laptop will be a Mac, but I'm ?not convinced. I do like his Mac, but it's a lot to get used to when I have to switch back and forth.?

Before tax, it was $949. Plus, I got a $30 discount on the iWork, so it was only $49. I was hesitant to spend the money as well, but, by the time I added Office and other software, etc. to a PC, it wasn't much more.
Also, I didn't have to deal with all of the pre-loaded stuff, which was nice, and I did not have to pay the store to set up the computer for me. I can go on and on.. being a new convert to the mac world, but I'll stop now because I have to stop somewhere.

LOL - after I hit submit, I realized I should have mentioned I was only speaking form personal experience - check my edit.?
I had a Dell laptop that was a piece of junk. A ton of people love theirs, so I think I just got a bad machine, which could happen with any brand. I just bought an HP laptop a couple weeks ago and it is wonderful.
I think I'm going to seriously consider the Mac. I will have to wait until next weekend, but that is ok. The nearest Mac store is about an hour and 20 minutes away.
you'll probably love the mac. DH always has some new cool update to show me.
?I can't believe that the nearest apple store is an hour and a half away from you... i was pretty sure they were popping up like starbucks.
good luck with your decision.?

Both DH and I have mac computers and LOVE them! ?The best part for me is that they do not become outdated as quickly and they do not get the same amount of viruses as PC computers. ?As for PCs both DH and I have had problems with Dell and HP (but maybe we just had dumb luck twice!) ?My FIL had a Toshiba for a while and loved it...however we have recently gotten him onto macs. ?Good luck with you decision!!

I have the aluminum macbook and I have never been happier with a computer!
It comes with iLife with has all the basics like iPhoto and iTunes ready to go for you. I didn't buy any software and downloaded open office (which includes all the same things as regular office, like spreadsheets, presentations/powerpoints, etc...). It opens every kind of file, unlike on my old pc where it was always a crapshoot if a certain file would open.
I got a student discount on mine (University student) so you should be able to swing something as a teacher!
Have fun shopping and let us know what you decide!
(Oh, and I actually got mine at best buy, ours has a whole little apple store inside with mac specialists and all the goodies)?
I have a MacBook Pro and LOVE it. I will never ever ever buy a PC again. Our next laptop will me one of the MacBooks (regular, Pros, or Slim) and the "family computer" will be an iMac.
I had a Dell laptop that I used tons and tons and it was awesome. It didn't really have any problems for about three years (which is actually awhile for a laptop since they are expected to only have a life expectancy of a few years depending on how much you use it). It still works now it just has a few quirks.
I ended up buying a Gateway laptop because it was on sale and I needed a computer with working USB ports. The hard drive just died and I've hardly had it a year and now I'm back on my old Dell. I HATE Gateway!! Good luck!
Asus is what I have for a laptop. They are a little pricey but well worth it. This company actually makes macs for apple. They also make their own laptops with insane speed, memory and graphics. I will never own another brand,
macs are the best. my family has had so many different kinds of pc's and i can tell you, macs are better in every way. i have a macbook, dh has a macbook pro and imac. they are great because you don't have to deal with all the slowing down and viruses and things that you get with pc's. i think some macs are a little bit more expensive, but it's definitely worth it.

Re: Hey GP! Recommend your computer
Stay away from Dell. HP is excellent.
