I just switched my son to cloth diapers and invested in some BG 3.0 and GMD prefolds and thirsty covers. He is a year old now and has never really had a diaper rash (maybe some redness here and there). He actually has a bumpy (first one) rash on his bottom. I notice it more after using the prefolds. any suggestions? I prewashed them 4 times using Tide powder. Please help. I really want to CD but don't know what to do.
TIA

pinstripes & polka dots doesn't recommend the Tide...
Detergent Chart for Use in Cloth Diapering
Anyway, there are always some babies who will have a reaction to a detergent. Maybe try a different one. Also experiment with baking soda in the wash cycle and/or vinegar in the rinse cycle, depending on how hard your water is.
What washing routine do you use? We do cold wash, hot wash, extra rinse, tumble dry. If I don't do the extra rinse, I sometimes notice detergent residue. (Also, we only use 1/2 the recommended detergent.) That's per cottonbabies.com and the BG wash instructions. Other people certainly have success with different washing routines.
GL! You definitely don't want to mess around with the diaper rash.
Do you wash all of your son's clothes in Tide as well? If so, then it might not be the detergent. Jillian's Drawers actually says Tide is ok for diapers despite all the additives it has.
I'm sorry that your first foray into cloth diapering has led to this! Don't get discouraged though!
Tiny bumps sound like yeast, to me. If they don't go away soon, you may want to take him to the pedi.
Good luck!
