Working Moms

Working moms of infants with commutes...

Do you have to wake up your baby in the morning?  Kiran goes to sleep by 7, I do a "dream feed" at 10 p.m., and then he often wakes up to feed at 6.  Usually, though, he'll go right back to sleep after this, and we have to wake him up to put him in the carseat at 7:15 for daycare.  I know he doesn't nap great at daycare...I feel bad waking him up, but he can't go to bed any earlier.  Do your LO's have to be woken up in the morning?

  • Yes- I wake DD up at 6. She usually goes to sleep about 8:30. She takes about half a bottle. We drive 30 minutes and she falls back asleep in the car. I feel bad, but don't have any other options.  On weekend she doesn't sleep too much longer so that makes me feel that I'm not depriving her of too much sleep.

  • We co-sleep, so I pretty much get DS out of bed when I get up. Lately, though, I've been feeding him while we're still in bed & he's still asleep & I can usually get him into his swing while I get ready for the day until his nanny arrives.

  • Ever since ds was 4months old we've had to wake him up at 6am. My dh takes him to my MIL house and then he's off to work!

  • We have to wake up DS. DH gets him up at 6:15 and changes/dresses him, then I feed him and we leave the house around 7-7:15. He usually falls asleep again in the car on the way to daycare and sometimes stays asleep even once he's there.

I would talk to the daycare provider about his napping and what suggestions they might have for helping him nap better at daycare. rather than changing his bedtime (which I totally understand not wanting to be earlier). Just this week our daycare "head teacher" talked to us about wanting to move DS to a different crib because she thought it might help him nap better. The one he was in was noisy when securing the railing and would wake him up.

Married June '03. DS born Jan '09. DD born Feb '12. No, we didn't choose to be childless for the first 6 years, only the first 3.
  • I usually do. He wakes up, eats, gets dressed, plays with toys in his highchair while I get ready and then he takes a nap on our commute (usually 45 minutes).
  • DS is usually up at 5:30 which is when I typically set my alarm for. If he's still sleeping then I will go in and wake him up after I am finished getting ready so that I can get him dressed.
  • Most mornings, DD is awake.
