Inexpensive changing table options

I want to purchase the matching dresser to the crib we ordered and use the top as the changing table. I did this in Hayden's room as well. However, $$$ has been super tight and I'm not sure we will get the dresser ordered in time. There still may be a chance we can get it depending on when MH gets his bonus.

In the event we don't get it fairly soon, what is an alternative solution for a changing table? Just use the bed? Get one of those cheapo tables? Set up the pack n play and use the changer it comes with? Is there some storage system from say Ikea that could be used as a changer also?

Any ideas would be appreciated! TIA!

I have 2 kids & have never used a changing table.  I just use the floor & a travel changing mat.

  • ditto dpdw.  Or the pnp changing pad thing for a while.
  • I've never had a changing table for either kid, but if you really feel like you need one how about looking for one on Craigslist? I check the baby section of our local Craigslist every day and always see nice changing tables on it for next to nothing.
  • I've never had or used a changing table.  I've used the floor, a bed, my legs, a counter with a towel over it, etc.
  • I have a changing table and very, very rarely use it. I just use my bed, or the ottoman in my living room

  • Our changing table didn't fit anywhere in the apartment we were living in when ML was first born, so we had the changing pad on the floor. ?It was kind of a pain at first, trying to get up and down after my c-section but other than that, it was simple. ?I'm actually the only person in my entire family who has a changing table. ?The rest of my sibs used the floor or the master bedroom counter (with a curved changing pad).
  • I am in the minority here, apparently, but with all 4 kids I have ALWAYS used a changing table or dresser w/ changing table pad on it!!  You could buy one of the contoured changing table pads w/ the belt on it & use that on the bed or floor until you have the dresser to put the pad on top of.  We have a dresser in the nursery (from Target's line) that we have been using as a changing table w/ one of the pads on top of it, for the last 5 1/2 years.  Works great.  The PNP idea is also a good one.  Seems like you are on the right track!  GL!
