We just found out yesterday we're having twins. I am very happy, but very anxious and freaked out about money. We will both have to go back to work, I'm worried about a lack of family support (they don't live extremely close), childcare cost, etc.
Ugh! Such a blessing, I am just worried. I hope any of you fabulous workin mamas can tell me something good! ![]()
Re: Any working moms with multiples?
Research your daycares now. Thanks to the economy right now a lot of them are doing promo deal (percentage off the second child, etc...), we have daycare that provides breakfast, snack and lunch. This is additional savings. Luckily we use daycare 3 times a week - the other two days my mother watches them.
Is there any way you can work or your DH can work from home one day a week? this would help cut back travel time, 1 less day at daycare, etc..
We cut back to the basics to help us through this also. No home phone, bagging lunch, no cable, gently used clothing for the kids, etc... If you're both back at work it can be done. Also look for gently used stuff like strollers, playpens, etc... on second hand places. Obviously things such as car seats you should buy brand new. Good Luck!
Congratulations and Yes! After my twins were born I stayed home with them for five months. We had an au pair the first year I was back at work which can be a GREAT option for anyone with more than one child. We had a 24 year old from Germany who was fantastic with my boys. It was soooo nice to have them at home and not have to worry about packing everyone up and getting out the door with two infants. We used Cultural Care Au Pair but there are several agencies you can use. Check out this list for more info about au pairs. https://www.culturalcare.com/
I would check to see if there is a Moms of Multiples Club in your area. They are a great resource for MoMs on a wide variety of issues. Our club has meetings for new and expectant moms where they can ask questions about logistics (how do you feed two at once), stroller recommendations, etc. I found it to be very helpful. Each MoMs club has a consignment sale which you will definitely want to participate in. You can save a TON of money buying equipment and clothes at these sales. Check this website to see if there is a club near you. https://www.nomotc.org/
Again, congratulations and post here or on the multiples board any time with questions!

Uhmm....doesn't work like that. I work from home and without my nanny here, it is impossible to get work done. A good friend and co-work who works at home has twins and she would 100% agree. Just cause you work from home, doesn't mean you don't need childcare!
I ahve twin boys who are ow two. They have been in daycare full-time since they were about 3 months old.
You and your DH have to be absolutely comitted to working together and splitting duties 50/50. It is totally do-able.
Start looking for a good daycare ASAP. Although - it seems that most MOMs prefer nannies in the home - then you don't have to dress and ship them every day. I personally like my kids getting out of the house and going to school every day. Whatever your choice, lock it in asap.
Buy only the minimum stuff you need. THE MOM board can help a lot.
First of all: congrats! Twins are so exciting! Mine are 8 months old. I went back to work when they were 3 months (I am a grad student). At first they were in daycare, but that didn't work out for us because they were sick so much, then we hired a nanny, who wasn't good (lazy, didn't do anything) and we since hired another nanny who is AMAZING to say the least. It is just so much easier having a nanny and not having to get the girls all ready to go in the morning.
Take a deep breath! It will be fine!
?
Congrats on your twins!
My only suggestions are the same as those above. Get on as many waiting lists as possible. Even if you kinda like it. Some daycares laughed at me but I put my name on the list anyway. It's amazing how fast a year flys by and then it's your turn to have a spot at the daycare you have always wanted!
Congratulations!!!!
I can understand the nerves but you'll do just fine. It can be overwhelming when thinking about the cost. I have no idea what the cost of daycare is in the D/FW area. In AL I pay $255 a week for both of the kids which is pretty cheap.
I do have family support but I know a lot of multiple moms who do not. It's definitely easier with family. (if your family is helpful that is... if they're a nightmare then it won't help you at all.!)
It can be done. Not that you asked, but the most valuable advice I can give you is to accept offers of assistance. I didn't do this and should have.

I have multiples and returned to work after 5.5 months off. I am happy and am maintaining (most days
) a balance of work and family time. I teach and therefore have a family friendly job. Like a lot of previous posters, I would start looking for daycare early. I had my nanny lined up by the time I was 4 months pregnant and that was a time consuming process.
I too was shocked and scared, but with some sacrafices and discipline, we are making it work! Congrats!!!
Congratulations!
As another mom mentioned au pairs are a great option. I am a coordinator with Cultural Care. We have lots of families on the program with multiples. Having an au pair can be a very cost effective flexible option. The average weekly cost of having an au pair is approx. $325.00 per week regardless of the number of children. Many times during the year we also have promotions. If you would like to discuss the au pair program please feel free to e-mail me at Michele.Chazen@lcc.culturalcare.com
