I had DS's 1 yr appointment today. I was concerned he was getting too much milk (35 oz) and having too many bottles (5/day). Our Ped. thinks we need to stop giving him any bottles and give him milk only in a sippy cup. Have any of you been told to drop all bottles this early?
Re: Moving from bottles to only sippy
The dentist said to stop the bottles by a year and to transition them to straw sippy cups by 18mo.
At a year, the bottles just disappeared. We had them using sippy cups from about 7mo, but still had formula in the bottles. At a year, when we got the all clear to stop formula and go to all milk, the bottles went away.
They knew how to use the sippy so they weren't going to thirst. My middle one seems to miss the night time bottle, but we replaced it with a sippy of milk and she got over it.
I went cold turkey - and more out of necessity since I didn't really want 2 on bottles at once.
