We're thinking of naming our baby Eli if it's a boy. I know people usually have an image that goes with certain names, so I'm just wondering what yours is for Eli. Do you think of a dorky nerdy kid, a popular kid, etc?
The Eli's I've known were this dorky kid I went to school with (he was seriously like Forest Gump) and a muscian/drug addict who was married to a friend of the family.
Oh, and Eli Whitney (inventor of the cotton gin lol)
Nailed it. No bad connotations, to me. I like the name. (Bit of trivia for you -- Eli Manning's full first name is Elisha. I don't think Eli necessarily requires a full or "more formal" name; but I thought I'd share the tidbit anyway.)
red hair and lime green shoes. More the lime green shoes than anything else. I went to high school with a guy named Eli and only wore lime green shoes, even to prom. That's why we don't call our son Eli, but Elijah. Not to mention I like to call my kids what I named them.

I know a few Black men named Elijah (Eli) so that's what I think of. I think it's a nice name. One of my friends just had a baby named Elijah and they call him Eli.
The Eli I knew growing up was very smart, ridiculously good looking, a star soccer player, and super nice. His only flaw was that he was almost too nice. So I view the name Eli in a very positive light
The first thing I think of is my friend from high school who was GORGEOUS (everyone had a crush on him!), talented (he's a dancer and musician - swoon!), and soooo sweet (he was one of the kindest people I have ever met). So, all I think of when I hear it is someone FABULOUS!!!!!
Re: What does the name Eli make you think of?
Manning - football
Whitney - inventor
Lilly - pharmaceutical company

I really like this name. To me it sounds strong. I would imagine a strong, cool kid. My DH said no because it sounded Amish to him. So?
And there is another boy in our daycare that spells his name Eli but it is pronounced Ellie. That was new to me.
