Sick of people saying, oh you'll have a minivan soon!

I'm so happy to hear that MoMs on here drive SUV's.  My DH & I really do not want to get a minivan.  I'm sure in ways it would be easier with the automatic doors opening/closing.  But I just can't bring myself to drive a minivan.  We have an SUV, Mercury Mountaineer, and at least we are planning our twins to be our only kids.

But we keep having everyone telling us, oh just wait, you'll have a minivan before the twins are a year old!  I just want to scream NOOOOOO!!!!

And by the way, I don't mean to upset anyone that has a minivan. I just think the car you drive is a personal decision and at least right now it's not what I want.  I know plenty of people that have minivans and love them.

  • THANK YOU!!! ?People look at me like I have an extra head when I tell them we're keeping our SUV. ?Granted it's going to be tight since we have 3 kids. ?But it's not impossible. ?DH and I always swore we would never buy a minivan and we're not going to break that now.
  • I agree. ?I'm just not a minivan person - although I hear the perks ARE great. ?DH just had a heck of a time convincing me an SUV would be preferable over my Camry. ?My decision was solidified once I realized he really can't drive the Camry with an infant seat in the back because of his height. ?

Plus, we plan to take many driving trips with them instead of flying, so to pack everything, so something bigger is ideal. ?Though if you were to ask me, I still sorely miss my VW Beetle I had when we first got married. ?:( ?For some reason I don't think that would work with twins!!!?

  • We'll be getting one, but the car we currently have (a TINY Honda Fit) won't fit anywhere near 3 seats in the back.  I never thought I wanted one, but for us it'll be a good choice.
  •   Embarrassed confession- i am looking at the minivan...eventhough the thought of it makes me want to vomit, i know its going to be much easier for me with the 2 babies...i also dont know if we are going to have more kids and want to have enough room if we decide to have one more in a few years

  • I was the same way.  I definitely did not want a minivan and was determined to find a way to make our Hyundai Tucson work with 3 car seats.  Sadly, there was no way for us to make it work...So I jumped on the minivan bandwagon...I have to admit it is a lot easier for us, with our 3 year old and the twins.  We bought a Nissan Quest (for us it was a cool minivan).  Definitely if we didn't have twins and had two kids total we would have stayed with our Tucson.

  • I drive a minivan, but that is only because I have 3 kids. If I only had the twins or 2 kids, I would still be in my car. I did tell DH I am getting an SUV as soon as the twins are about 3 y.o. I like my minivan, but I'd prefer an SUV.
  • I 100% agree! I NEVE want to have a van. DH drives one right now and that's just because it was given to us by my parents and I really appreciate it. However, I love my Maxima and I don't ever plan on driving that van. My car is a pretty big car and DH and have already talked about getting a SUV for me if I feel like the car just isn't enough, but I don't see that happening. Not gonna lie though.... the van is nice when we go grocery shopping Embarrassed
  • Having 4 kids, I can not imagine my life without my Honda Odyssey.

I don't understand the minivan stigma but, you have to drive what you like.

I had to get a bigger car because of the twins AND my SS who is 15 years old (he is 5'9 and weighs about 170 lbs).  There is no way he would be able to fit in the back with the convertible seats.  We had a GMC Envoy and getting SS out of the back was hell.
  • We have a TL (my car) which is paid off and an full cab toyota Tundra, which we bought 2 months before we found out we were pregnant with twins.

    We get that also.

Granted I can't fit all 3 kids into my car, but they all fit fine in the truck.

Our solution was simple and easy.  I drive the truck during the week and the DH takes my car to work.

People assume alot, although I am never sure who they think is paying the bills for all these new cars we are supposed to get because we now have twins.

I think my issue with minivans is I learned to drive on one and hated driving around in it as a teenager.  My parents had a regular car until I was getting my learner's permit and decided to get a minivan for some unknown reason, I'm their youngest and was the only one living at home at that point to.  To make it worse, when I got my own car, they almost immediately got an SUV.  They claim it was nothing to do with me....but I don't believe them!  So I promised myself that I would never drive one!

  • I'm with you. I'd have to have 4 or more to even think about a mini van! My cousin bought one once. It lasted 4 months and she went and traded it in for a SUV
