Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

if your lo has fat feet come in!

My DS has the thickest feet ever! I am trying to find him a pair of real shoes (he has been using ministar's and clogs) but his feet are so fat that I can't get any shoes past his few toes before it's impossible to push them in any more. If your kid has feet like this, what kind of shoes are you using? DS walks full-time now, so I need something with a sole to it.

Re: if your lo has fat feet come in!

  • I completely LOL at the title. DS has super chunky feet. His first walking shoe was  Stride Rite shoes and they come in wide or regular so we got him the wide shoes, and they worked pretty well. We just got him new shoes because in 5 months he outgrew his shoes, and this time I bought Geox, those are pretty wide as well.

    Good luck.

  • My DS wears an extra wide now. We have gotten him a few pairs of Stride Rite, which come in wide or extra wide. They have been fine for him.?

  • Ditto on the Stride Rite wide width.  I think it's easier with girls because they can wear a mary jane style which is pretty easy to slide their chunky little feet into :)
  • Ditto pp suggestion of Stride Rite.  Love them! I also love the pedipeds.  They fit thick feet really well!

  • lolz at this post. dd's feet are very chunky (esp. at the top). she got measured at a 6 double-wide (xw) at stride rite but even their shoes are too narrow up top.

i've also tried pedipeds, see kai run and jumping jacks and all of them were too small. the only ones that fit her are New Balances KV502 on zappos.com and we just discovered Crocs Cayman fit her very well. It's really hard to find cute shoes for chubby feet!! HTH.

  • DS has chunky feet so I have gotten him sneakers & shoes in wide sizes. He also has crocs now too and although he doesn't walk completely on his own yet he does pretty well with them while holding our hands & walking.

  • DS has really thick feet too.  The wide shoes don't help, because he doesn't need the extra width, he needs extra height.  We were able to find one pair (and only one) at Stride Rite that fit.  We've had good luck with See Kai Run though.  And I'm always trying on shoes at Target and Wal-Mart, because every now and then something fits.  But it's really all just trial and error.  I'll try 20 pairs to find 1 that fits.

My son wears the Stride Rite shoes in extra wide and they are great!
  • My DS has chunky on top feet...the only shoes we have found to work are stride rite
  • Shoes I am still trying to find ones that fit good, for sandals I jsut got him a pair of teva's.  They completly open up and are adjustable for fat little feet!!!
  • DS takes a size 5.5 XW from Stride Rite. We had no idea his feet were so wide until they were measured there,  b/c his See Kai Runs fit him fine for 4 months of walking until then! So, I guess they run wide as well. Both of those brands work well for us.

  • Ditto all of the Stride Rite responses.  They have worked very well for us.

  • i had her measured at stride rite and she measured 3.5, but they told me to go with a 4 wide because of how chunky her feet are, so i just went to Target and bought some Circo maryjanes, they seem to be ok. the trick is to go up a 1/2 size or so.
  • we had luck with a pair of lace up jumping jacks. they come in wide sizes.

for sandals we got wide velcro stride rites.
