Horrifying? Really?

Just catching up reading People. I stuimbled across this article about Mellissa Joan Hart and how she got her "bikini body" back. She was horrified that she weighed 155lbs last summer.

https://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20281245,00.html

She is now down to 113. Well good for her but using the word horrifying to describe your post baby body makes a new mother like me feel like crap...you know?

IDK.....it just made my stomach turn this morning. I know tons of people who would LOVE to be 155lb so soon after giving birth. Hell it took me more than 6 months.

Vent over.

Re: Horrifying? Really?

  • While 155lbs would be an ideal weight for you or me, for a pygmy like Melissa Joan Hart I'm sure that's overweight.  She's probably 5ft tall.

I know it's frustrating to see that kind of stuff (TRUST ME!  I am with you), but try to remember that these people are itty bitty teeny tiny.

And if she's not 5ft tall, then she just needs to shut the hell up and eat a twinkie.

  • When I read your post I was pissed too.  But then when I read the article I changed my mind.  I don't think she was saying she was horrified to be 155, I think she's saying she was horrified at the fact that they had pics of her in her swimsuit of her post baby body, like a reality check.  IDK, it's still a poor choice of words, but I can see what she's saying about being a celebrity and the expectations are different.  I commend her for losing the weight the right way and not overnight like most celebs do.

But honestly, in that pic she looks alot heavier than 155 to me.  Of course, I don't know that I believe she's 113 now either.  113 is really small, and I don't think she's that small.  I think she looked more like 170 in that pic and is about 120 now.

I agree though, if 155 is horrifying, then my weight must be suicidal.

  • I agree the article wasnt bashing that weight completely I was just turned off by the word to describe it. I am not having a good morning and that just made it even worse....and pissed me off a little.

Gotcha!  I think it was poor wording too, very insensitive.  155 would be great right now!

  • That article probably would have been better without mentioning any numbers.  I mean, people carry weight so differently.  Speed is probably right, she's probably so little and petite that 155 looks like more on her than it would on some people.

I'm glad she took her time and lost the weight in a normal fashion instead of whatever most celebs do to be back in pre-baby shape so fast.  She doesn't quite make sense though because she's bashing the Hollywood pressure to be thin, and then saying "but look, I did it too!" in the next breath LOL!

I saw that and had the same reaction, too.  And I was thinking beyond having a baby....many women weigh that or more and aren't unhealthy or overweight.

    Btw....she is 5'2".

My sister is 5'2" and 155 would be a good 45 pounds overweight for her.  When she weighs 115, she has a little belly roll and I guess that 105-110 is probably her ideal weight.  But she has a TINY frame.  We're obviously built very differently.

Regardless, it does suck for someone to say that being at your weight is "horrifying."  It would be nicer if they said that she was 50 lbs over her pre-pregnancy weight instead.

  • I read that too.  I imagine she is probably pretty short, so 155 is most likely pretty big for her.

  • It's amazing how differently people carry their weight.  I'm about 5'3.5" (to be exact), and the lowest I could ever go and still be healthy would probably be 125-130.  If I got down to 120 I would be really sick.  I graduated HS at 127 and was a size 4.  But no worries about that ever happening!

My mom and I are the same height, but our frames are very different.  I can weigh 15 lbs heavier than her and wear smaller sizes than her.  I think a lot of it has to do with your frame & build.  I'm built like a cheerleader and my mom is built like a model.  LOL

I'm built like a tree stump!  Ha ha.  Seriously, you're right.  I'm very solid and can weigh alot and still wear small sizes.  Alot of my weight is in my boobs too I'm sure.  I think they make me look so much heavier than I am.  My boobs are bigger than my head, and that's just not right!

  • My first response when I saw this post was that she is really short, so 155 is going to be a lot on her. I agree that the numbers on the scale do not matter, it is how you look and fit in your clothes b/c like the other posters said, everyone carries weight differently. I agree they should not have put her actual weight, but she does look amazing!!
