Will the schedule stick?

Sorry, I'm so full of questions, I thought seperate posts would be best...

At the NICU, DD is obviously on a very set schedule of eating at 2-5-8-11 and has been since she started eating on Saturday. She is supposed to come home Saturday, of course based on the fact she has no more d-stats, but I'm curious if this schedule will stick. I know my son was a major cluster feeder and I feel like all I did was feed him for the first three months or so, so being on a schedule like this would be AWESOME! I'm just not counting on it......

Re: Will the schedule stick?

  • Brandon was in the NICU for 12 weeks (he was born at 26 weeks, 1 day) and the schedule that they had him on did last when he came home. He would be hungry every 3 hours. That lasted for awhile.

  • DS was on a schedule of eating every 3 hours, and that stuck for awhile when we came home.  What also stuck was him sleeping all day and being up all night!

  • The schedule stuck for us.  He continued to eat every 3 hours for the first few months and then moved to four hours.

  • My girls were NEVER on a schedule so I was a little excited that DS would be on a schedule when he came home. He was in the NICU for 14 weeks and his last week there they started feeding him ad lib and it's been that way ever since! About 2 months after he came home he did start going to sleep at a semi-regular time each night.
  • DD stayed on her NICU schedule FOREVER!  She didn't want to make the transition to every 4 hours at all ( at the time when most babies might).  I loved that she was on a schedule though ... it made life so much easier.
  • Lily is technically still on her NICU schedule, with some modifications, we dropped the midnight feed, but she still eats bascially at 8-12-4-8
