Hurts like hell and I cant sleep. Grabbed a hot pot that was in the oven stupidly. Not sure if I should go to the ER or not.....lots of conflicting advice via google.
ouch! I'm sorry .. dh has done that plenty of times, and I think he usually just puts ice on it - I don't know if that's supposed to help though. He's gone to the e.r once before for a burn and they gave him this special cream and bandages.. I know that's no help but I hope you're able to sleep tonight!

ice was the only thing keeping it from hurting, but I read that it's bad for the burn....figures. I really don't want to go to the ER but apparently hands are bad places for burns...ugh this sux!!
Is the skin still intact? If not you should probably go to the ER. You don't want to get an infection on top of the burn. If the pain is just too much then I'd go too. Try taking some Motrin if you haven't already & see if it helps any. It's probably going to hurt for a couple of days, so you may need something stronger for pain.
I was totally assaulted myself with steam a couple of weeks ago when I opened a saran wrapped bowl of rice right out of the microwave. I did use cool water to keep the pain away, it was the only thing I could stand. I slept with my damn hand in a glass of water. I also used a baking soda paste on it. I'm not sure how much it helped but I think it is worth a shot. Hope you feel better soon.
Where is the burn and what does it look like? Hands are a bad place because you use them so much and the rick of infection is so high but if you do not have any blisters and the pain is not absolutely excruciating you should be fine.
Thanks girls, it's better today. I didn't fall asleep until about 4 am though. The pain was terrible, and it seemed everytime I laid down in bed it got worse, until finally around 3:30-4:00 it stopped hurting as much.
I have 4 blistered areas this morning on my index, middle, thumb and palm areas. I am hoping they don't pop cuz that will hurt like hell for sure. Function is at a minimum because it will start to hurt after too much movement. The skin feels really "tight" in the burned areas. I hope it goes away quickly
Ouch! It sounds like 1st and 2nd degree burns to me (tight/reddened areas are 1st, blisters are 2nd), I'm glad you didn't get worse!
You're right to try to keep the blisters intact, the fluid is protecting those spots during healing. If you decide to put cream or ointment on the tight spots, avoid petroleum based products, they could make things worse. Maybe Motrin to help with pain/swelling (if you're not already using it). Keep a look out for signs of infection (redness/more pain/pus, etc). (For future reference, cold water is better for burns than ice only b/c ice can stick to skin if applied directly, but if you use cloth inbetween ice and skin you're ok.)
GL!

This is a little late, but if the skin is not broken, I use toothpaste on burns. It really helps with the pain! Hope that helps.
